Yes, it is very early first trimester. I believe it is in week two, about when implanation occurs, the chorionic cavity forms. I presume it becomes fluid filled then.

If you are wondering cause you think you may be leaking fluid in an early pregnancy, I would warn you that the AMOUNT made then would be virtually undetectable. I don't know when the quanity is substantional, but when folks miscarry at 8 weeks, some folks (not all) do see a fluid gush.

How exactly amniotic fluid is made is still a mystery to modern science- later it's part pee, suspected to be made by the lining itself as well. But it's one of those things, we put a man on the moon but still don't know where amniotic fluid comes from or how labor starts.....
