I feel like such a dolt and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question! This is my first time being pregnant and I have a question. I'm about 18.5 weeks along and every so often I feel a slight twingy-crampy feeling in my belly.

For example, right now it's happening intermittently (for the past 10-15 minutes or so). I'm feeling it on my right side, sort of at an angle, like if you place your hand palm down a few inches to the right of your navel, with the fingers pointing to the middle of your pubic bone. So anyway, what I'm wondering is, am I having Braxton-Hicks contractions? Is THIS what they feel like? Can anything be done to alleviate them? They're not painful, they just make me aware of my abdomen...you know?

I have an appt a week from Friday with my doc and will tell her, but thought I'd ask here as well. Thanks so much for your thoughts and advice - I really appreciate it!

My initial reaction is that that's not how I'd describe a Braxton Hicks contraction at all and 18.4 weeks would be a bit early for a first time mom. Sounds more like round ligament stretching pain to me. A BH is more like your belly gets tight particuarly at the top. You can feel it happening in your belly and then if you touched your belly it would feel hard to you. I mean really quite hard. Your belly would probably flatten down a bit on the top. I haven't heard of them being on one side or the other. Can't hurt to check with your doc though.

Thanks! I will talk with my doc. Upon further research, it does sound exactly like they're round ligament pains - they're following my bikini line and everything!

I really appreciate it!

Definately sounds like round ligament pains to me. You describe them exactly how mine feel.
