So, we went out for Indian food, and as usual, I ate too much. (But it was so good!) Now, I'm having heartburn. This hardly ever happens to me, in fact I can't remember the last time I had heartburn. I'm sure it's because I'm pregnant, and these things happen. Normally, I eat some fennel seeds or papaya tablets, and all is well. But I'm out. And all we have is Pepcid. Mainstream sources say it's ok, esp if it's a one time thing. (Like, I don't take them every day). But, mainstream sources also say formula is as good as breastfeeding. So, my esophogaus would like some relief, but my brain is wanting to make sure the baby will be ok. What would you do?

I took is sometimes when I was pg with J. I tried more natural alternatives, then I would chew some dentyne ice if that didn't work and finally I would resort to Pepcid chewables.

Persephone, I can think of a million things worse than Pepcid that you could be thinking of taking right now. I really think that if you do it just once when you're really needing the relief, it's probably better than suffering. Everything in moderation, right? Also, you might want to consider not taking the full dose and seeing if you can get relief from a 1/2 dose instead. If you can't, then just take the rest of the dose at that time.

Um, I just took one . It's a very routine medicine to give and no known side effects for the baby.

Thanks for the reassurance! I remembered I just got Aviva Romm's pregnancy book from the library, so I looked up heartburn in there, and she said slippery elm. So, I took some Throat Coat tea, and it really helped. But it's good to know that if I DO need the Pepcid, I can take it without much risk of harm to the baby. (I literally had it between my teeth when I paused to think about this, because I so RARELY use OTC medication.)
