I need some reassurance

My kiddos have seemed to get bigger each time. First was 8lb15oz, second was 9lb10oz, third was 11lb8oz...so I need someone, anyone, to tell me that this doesn't necessarily mean a bigger baby this time. I'm hoping for a 9 lb'er.

So I'm wanting to know if some of you can tell me you or someone you know had larger babies but then smaller subsequent ones?

And what else can I do other than watching refined carbs, etc.. to try to make sure I don't grow a huge one this time? He came out just fine, but I really don't want to think about a larger one. The first two were like several pushes and out, the third was over an hour of pushing in all kinds of different positions. He was posterior so that added to the problem of pushing him out...but still.

Any btdt or words of wisdom??

You most likey pushed longer with him because he was posterior, not due to size. My first was 6lbs 12oz (born 4 wks early) and she was posterior, born sunny side up, and I pushed 4 hours with her.

My second was 8lbs 12oz (born 2 wks early) and I only pushed about 20 min with him. I think baby's position has much more to do with length of pushing than the size of the baby.

I wish I could reassure you but all of my friends who have more than one kid, they got bigger each time. BUT that doesn't mean that the 4th, 5th, 6th, whatever, won't be smaller. It's like labor, you just won't know until it comes, YK?

Mine was bigger.. but not as large as "they" predicted.
First was 8,4; second was 8, 15.5 - "they" predicted over 11 or 12 lbs.

Well, I've only had one child and am pregnant with my second so I can't say about descending size BUT-my sister went from bigger to smaller. I was my mom's 5th kid weighing in at 10 lbs. 6 oz. but my sister was born a year later and was smaller-not a whole lot, but still, smaller.

I don't know what you can do to stay smaller, especially since you have to be so healthy. I too have heard that the baby's position has more to do with how long it takes a baby to come out.

Good luck!

well, this may be obvious, but were they all about the same time or were some cooked longer? i know some moms in your shoes would do cervical ripening with EPO and try to encourage labor earlier if they tend to go to 42-43 wks and have big babes.

His positioning probably did make things worse, because normally I'm a great pusher and they just fly out

As far as timing, actually the first was just under a week early (the 8 15), second was two weeks early (the 9 10) and Mace was a day early (11.8). So if the first two would have been at term they'd have weighed even more. Likely still a stairstep pattern though (i.e. Gage would have been maybe 9 and a half, Maddie might have gotten to 10 and a half then Mace was 11 and a half)

If it looks like I'm going to go late I'll really start freaking

You know, I was very watchful of my protein with Mace; I made sure to get almost 100 grams a day. Would the protein have made him bigger, not necessarily the carbs? But I need the protein! lol Oh well, not much I can do other than eat healthy and hope for the best

my first was 10 lbs 6 oz and my second was 8 lbs 14 oz.

with my first i had a low lying placenta that caused a lot of bleeding early on and i was unable to exercise. also i ate whatever i want. i "failed" the 1 hour gd test but passed the 3 hour one. in hindsight i realized that i had blood sugar issues.

with my second i watched my blood sugar- once the m/s passed and i could actually eat that is. i exercised often (walking and some yoga) and watched my refined carbs. both things helped my blood sugar. i declined the gd test this time since it did nothing for me the previous time.

so that is just to say that:

1- subsequent babies can be smaller! and
2- for me (not implying that it is the same for you, just giving you my story) i had blood sugar issues that i could control with diet and exercise.

i hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and grow the perfect sized baby!

Wow, that's a lot of protein. Usually, I'd say as long as your body craved it, then fine, but that's really a lot. Were you trying to follow the Brewer's Diet or something?

I've only had two and my second one was bigger, but only by 6 ounces. I'm pretty active typically during pregnancy. This time around I have NO CLUE. I've had Hyperemisis throughout this pregnancy (still throwing up daily at 8 months thanks) and then was on bed rest for quite some time. So, no clue if that's going to make the baby bigger or smaller than my other 7 lbers. We'll see. What a little mystery!

Wishing you a healthy happy pregnancy!

And, while I'm wishing... wishing Chrissy a wonderful cycle this month that will result in a new baby in your arms in 9 months!

My babies have all been big, but my third was actually smaller than my first two, and I went two weeks "late" with all of them. I have a good friend who had enormous babies and with her fourth she completely avoided sugar throughout her pregnancy and her midwife used natural methods to induce her about two weeks early - her babe was still over 9 lbs. - but not 12 lbs. like his brother before him!

Mine have been all over the place. First was 8 lbs, #2 6-12, #3 7, #4 8-3, #5 9 lbs #6 8-2 #7 9 lbs. All 1 -2 weeks past their due date except for #2 who was early (and he is the outlier in terms of weight).

I was my mom's first and I was also the biggest. I was 8lbs 7oz. My brother after me was 7lbs 5oz. My sister after him was barely over 6lbs, and my youngest brother was right around 7lbs.

love and peace.

mine were 9-6, 8-4 and 9-7.

Honestly, particularly with midwives' low-tech scales, I don't put a lot of faith in those first weighings at all.

My mom's babies went progressively down in size: 8-2, 7-10, 7-6, 6-11 (the littlest one was me!).

#1-- (2 weeks after due date) 9'12.5"
#2-- (1 day after due date) 8'6.5"
#3-- (10 days before due date) 9'8"
#4-- (4 days before due date) 9'4"

you never know. i didn't even push with the last babe, he popped out while peeing.... i gained 70 pounds with the first and 30 with the second and only 12-15 with the last two. I was mostly vegan, always vegetarian with all of them.

i wish you the best

Does not have to get bigger. I had my first at 7.5 lb, the second 8.5, the third 9.5 and was hoping a little less, well he was 1 ounce less then his big brother. The birth was the hardest with the third and was the shortest with #4. It took only two pushes and he was in my arms, while the brother who was 1 ounce bigger took a lot longer. You never know, but if you do not gain a lot of weight you have a chance to to grow this baby bigger then the others. I hope it will work out for you. ANIKO
