Do you mean, if your water broke prematurely (before the onset of labor)?

I mean if your water broke and then labor started.

Just wondering if it breaks the first time, how likely is it that your water will break at the start of your labor the second time around.

I kinda liked that 'warning'

With DD1 my water broke, and I had my first contraction a few seconds later. It didn't break until I was actively laboring the second time, although I wasn't that far along.

With both my previous labors, my water broke at the start of active labor. I had been in early labor after losing my plug, all day, and both times my water broke around 1-2am.

I too really liked the "signs" I had for labor - losing the plug, then water breaking to sort of confirm things.

Although, the best confirmation was my father the 2nd time, we were visiting him and after being over there for a bit, he turned to dh and said "you might want to head home and nap soon, you'll have a baby tomorrow and you're in a for a long night -she is definitely in early labor, and if she's like her mom, she'll want to be left alone until the middle of the night, and then she's going to need you." He was right on on all accounts, and it was just wonderful! In fact, this time, my little sister is going to be in town and our dad has already started filling her in on how things progress so she can be here for me and help read the signs too.

First birth: no clue. baby was a pregnancy loss at 19 weeks.
Second birth: The bag of waters was hanging out of me and refused to break. Took a nurse stretching it and a resident with an amnio hook to break it.
Third birth: Water broke in the bath no more than 15 mins before birth.
Fourth birth: Water broke in birthing tub 15 minutes before birth.

So, we're predicting that when my water breaks, get out the catcher's mit!

My water broke before my active labor started. It broke but it was just leaking a lil here and there. Then contractions came and a couple hours later I was 1cen. dialated. My whole labor was 32 1/2 hours. About 17 of those hours were "hard" labor.

What a great question! I was wondering the same thing. I was lucky with my first. Water broke at 3:30 am and he was here by 8:40 am at 40 weeks! I did not notice any contractions or anything before my water broke. Fairly easy! Born one day before his EDD. I know I will not know how this one will go until it's time but it's interesting to read other experiances.

Mine broke first with baby #1, and contractions began 45 minutes later.
It broke first again with baby #2, and hard contractions began immediately.
We'll see what happens with baby #3. I probably won't know what to do if my water DOESN'T break first! LOL.

Interestingly my mother's water broke before onset of labor, as did 2 of my half-sisters. I seriously wonder if there's something genetic at work here!

With my first, my waters broke at 4:40 am, and she was born at 7:21 pm.

With my second, my waters didn't break until just before she was born; this was after about 7 hours of labor.

DS #1 - water broke at 38w4d and he was born 30 hours later.

DS#2 - water broke at, yes, 38w4d and he was born 16 hours later.

My remarkable consistency must be a fluke, right? I guess we'll be testing the theory next week since I am currently 37w6d with DS #3!

Jen, momma to 3 boys, ages 11, 8, and 5.  Sadly missing our little lost babes.

I only have one babe, and am pregnant with my second so I'm not much help. I've heard so many people say they like the idea of the water breaking early so they have that definite sign. I'm the opposite. With my daughter, my water broke when I was about 7 cms...and right as I was walking into the hospital. I was 35 or 36 weeks along. For me it felt like that was the beginning of the hard labor. That was at 4:45pm and my daughter was born at 7:15 pm. I feel like that water cushion really helped, and if my water breaks before labor this time, it's going to be a whole lot harder. But my water also broke right about at transition, and that's the hardest part anyway. I'm still hoping my water breaks later rather than early.

With my first, my water broke around 9pm on Thursday evening. I was induced Friday afternoon and she was born Saturday early morning (4:23am).

With my second, labor started Thursday night and my water broke about 15 mintutes before he was born on Friday morning (8:46am)

My water broke with my first DD and didn't break with my second DD until I was in the second state of labor. I suppose it's possible for your water to break both times at the beginning of labor, but it's not always likely

My water broke about an hour before contractions started with both labors. My first labor was about 13 hours from when my water broke, the second was about 5 hours, but only 3.5 from the start of contractions.

I also like the "advance warning" - I know what we're doing tonight, honey! I also don't know what I'll think if it doesn't break first this time...I probably won't believe I am in labor!

1st birth- water broke spontaneously during very early labor, about 14 hours before DS was born.

2nd birth- DD was born in the caul

3rd birth- water broke during pushing stage, about 3 minutes before DD was born.

New signature, same old me: Ann- mama of 2 boys and 2 girls, partnered to a fabulous man.
I'm an unintentional weasel feeder and I suck at proofreading.
