Hi all,

I'm 3 months pregnant and have come down with a nasty cold. Is there anything I can do homeopathically to help relieve this headache and cough?

TIA,

Hi Goddess,

I am ~5 weeks pregnant and just now getting over a 3 1/2 battle with the cold so I can sympathize

The only thing I can suggest is trying Boiron's cold formula. They are a great homeopathic company and usually pretty easy to find. They make a "cold formula" that covers a multitude of symptoms and they make a cough syrup called Chestal with honey. I am not sure how much the cold formula worked for me (considering the length of my cold!) but the cough stuff worked great!

Wish you the best of luck!

PS: there is a very good book available called "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines: Safe and Effective Remedies for You and Your Family" that are think is great to have around the house for times like this. It allows you to self-prescribe some basic remedies and is great for adults and children.

This isn't homeopathic, but I swear by a vaporizer. They really help you sleep, which for me is the worst thing about head colds.

I also sat up in bed when I was pregnant and had a cold. It was easier to breathe.

Take care of yourself...by that I meapamper yourself. I remember how miserable it felt, and it was over 6 years ago!

Do you have this nasty virus that's going around? I'm going on week 4 myself. Our family doctor and midwives recommended the following:

- Boil water, turn off heat, grate fresh ginger into it and breathe the steam
- Saline nose drops
- Bioforce (A. Vogel) echinacea (but be very careful to make sure it is not a mixture with goldenseal, which they said was contraindicated in pregnancy)
- Drink 10 oz. liquids per hour (a lot!)
- Cold-Eaze zinc lozenges

Hope you get better soon!

ok...think i'm crazy but...

chicken soup. (unless your vegetarian/vegan in which case i'll apologize in advance for this post)

I swear by it. Homemade if at all possible. Boil some chicken - you can add some powdered soup mix if you really hate making homemade, i find its a bit salty. Or even a chicken bouillion cube or two (again too many makes it salty). Boil that chicken till its falling off the bone. then take the bones out, leaving the meat in. add onion, carrots, celery.. whatever you have in the house. My dh adds rice and potatoes to his! i like matzah balls or noodles in mine. Theres something bout chicken soup that really really does help!

vicks under your nose and i second the vaporizor too. (we've been fighting colds/sinus infections for a while)
