Exactly how much more complete and thorough is a Level 2 ultrasound than a Level 1?

Is the potential danger from ultrasonic waves significantly greater in a Level 2 compared to a Level 1?

Can you point me to something to read on this?

Thanks!

I am very low-risk and having my third uneventful pregnancy.

Michele, mom of DD 5/01, DD 11/03, and DS 11/06

I am 42yo and the CNM practice I go to offered the whole gammit of testing for me since I'm termed AMA (advanced maternal age). I discussed with DH the ultrasound. At first we were not going to get any u/s...then after revisiting this issue, we decided that IF they performed a level I and found anything super abnormal we would go for a level II to be prepared to care for the little one if there was any special treatment needed.

One CNM at my practice was kind enough to forewarn me that the perinatal specialists who do the level II LOOK for something wrong and then even if there isn't anything wrong they give you percentages of something STILL being wrong though they couldn't find anything.

My level I this week was fine...though I realize not a guarantee that the baby is perfect. They could tell all his parts were there, measured his femur, his head, his length, etc.

Level II scans are exactly what the PP had posted in the link.
