Well I bought myself an extra week. The doc. said he had no problems letting me go until 42 wks. He said that was his cutoff point, though, and we'd "have" to induce after that. I didn't see the point of arguing with him today; we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But as long as everything's okay, we're not inducing at 42 wks, either....

Actually, it amuses me slightly all that I have to go thru in the next week. They had planned to give me a NST today to make sure that I was okay to go "over" until Friday (when he had orig. planned to induce). But since I'm going an extra week, he had me do an ultrasound to make sure there was enough fluid and to check on the size of the baby. I have to come back in on Friday for another NST. And Tuesday, I go back in for another US and NST, w/ another doc, since mine will be out of town from Sat. until Wed. This seems a little, um, excessive, since the whole pregnancy has been normal. I guess if it gives him peace of mind....

Oh, and do you know what the US said for the weight? 9 lbs 12 oz. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. He did say, "Sometimes they're off, but sometimes they're really accurate." Which, to me, basically says it told us nothing and it's still hit or miss. But nevertheless...

He said his main concern at this point is that the baby hasn't dropped, yet. He's afraid that I might have to end up having a C/S. This doesn't entirely surprise me, b/c my mom ended up having c/s w/ me and my brother b/c we never dropped (and I was 6 wks overdue).

Does anyone have a trick for making a baby drop?

(PS-->Cross-posted in my DDC to try to get a few more responses...I'm desparate!)

My kid didn't drop until 8+ hours in labor.

I wish you better luck!

I have always heard lots and lots of walking. Also belly dancing is supposed to be good for this kind of stuff. Maybe walk to the store and buy a belly dancing video?

I was going to suggest belly dancing, too. I did a lot of belly dancing at the end of my pg with dd and it really helped. Plus it's fun and it makes you feel like a beautiful gestating goddess! Have fun, and good luck! : sending you dropping vibes.

My u/s said my baby would be 8 lbs. He was 10. Ultrasound tech said it could go either way, and it really wasn't a good estimate of what to expect. I've also heard that once you hit 42 or so weeks the baby quits gaining because the nutrition from the placenta slows down. My baby was born at almost 43 weeks. I don't know any way you can get the baby to come if he or she isn't READY to come, but I know a darn good way to avoid the doctors. Just don't go to appointments or answer your phone.

When I was at home with a broken water for 3.5 days, I was doing knee lifts. I was getting my knees above my waist if you can imagine. I was also on the breast pump and taking cotton herbal drops to stimulate labor though, but I was under the direction of my midwife. Also, it was my second baby. But boy, did that baby drop. I thought he was going to fall right out.

Good luck!

You might try going to acupuncture or a chiropractor. Sometimes if the mama's body is out of alignment, it'll keep the baby from moving down. I've heard several women say that acupuncture sent them into labor (in a happy way!). Find one that specializes in prenatal stuff.

2nd the chiro advice. Also, lots of deep squats (think: every time you sit down or stop to do anything, squat instead!) and lunges help to open up the pelvis and encourage baby to move down. Great strengthening for labor, also. But it may not happen until babe's good and ready...FWIW, ds dropped about 4-5 weeks before I went into labor! He was at zero station for several weeks before he showed up. So who knows.

Good luck!

my first baby never dropped and I was induced at 41 weeks, because "they" scared me into it saying that the baby was huge. The induction actually went great and the baby came out just fine.

I was told that ultrasounds can be off by one pound in either direction. My first ds was estimated at 8lbs 1oz at 38 weeks. I delivered him at 41 weeks 8lbs 2oz.

Good luck!
