My mom wants to buy a honey baked ham (from the honey baked ham store) for holiday meal and snacking. I know they had a listeria recall just after thanksgiving last year. Would you eat it? Is it safe? Does cooking get rid of listeria? I tend to err on the side of really, really cautious, but it sounds good!

Heating does kill listeria, which is why docs will ask you to microwave lunch meat, which has a chance of having it.

Wow, I'm glad you started this thread. My sister is having a Heavenly Ham tomorrow (Christmas Eve) and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm sure she will cook it thouroughly, but I never stopped to think that hams fall into the lunchmeat category.

make sure it is really hot, and also make sure there are not nitrites/nitrates in it! I don't believe Honey Baked brand ham does, but ham from the supermarket almost always does.

Thanks! I'm gonna make sure it's super hot and enjoy it! for some reason I didn't know that I could eat that stuff as long as it was heated, I was just staying totally away from it. Merry Christmas!
