If I wasn't irritated with MIL enough lately, she showed up twice over the past few weeks with a terrible cold/fever/cough. DH even asked her if she was still sick before she came over the last time, and she said that she was feeling "better", but was still coughing and sneezing when she arrived :

Of course, the other night I woke up coughing up a storm, and I seem to have the sneezes too. No fever though.

I have been drinking loads of water, eating a clove of garlic, chlorophyll, getting outside and walking, and using the neti pot once a day.

Are there any homeopathic remedies that are good for this sort of thing? What else could I try? (aside from not allowing MIL here for a very long time )

I want to get rid of this ASAP, the coughing hurts my belly way too much, not to mention the weaker bladder isn't holding up to all of the sneezing and coughing. I also might have to miss a midwife appointment if I'm too sick to go - I have had to miss three because she was at births. I have been looking forward to this appointment more than I was looking forward to Christmas! They booked me with my previous midwife for this appointment, and I happen to think she practically walks on water

I use various things to knock out colds quickly... the one that's been working for us lately is this...

We also always increase our vitamin c in the winter and take zinc each and every day. That's in addition to our usual probiotics and fish oil. There are some threads here on MDC that state how much vitamin c to take while pregnant. It's less if you are in your first trimester and you can increase it as you get further along... I'm not running upstairs to get my book so you'll have to do a search if you are interested!

Hope that helps!

I took Benadryl to help me sleep when I was sick (OB said this was fine) Seemed to help some with the cold symptoms too. Another option is a humidifier which helps with stuff nosy.. and Vicks Vaporub (also ok'd by OB)

And I take Vitamin C and zinc.. I read somewhere that OBs sometimes recommend 1000 mg of Vitamin C for swelling in pregnancy..

Benadryl was the only thing I felt ok taking for a limited amount of time and only at night so I could sleep. it really helped and I only did this when totally miserable. I did take tylenol too if fever was an issue. Otherwise I just took EmergenC to beat the cold faster, lots of water, lots of chicken broth (homemade!) and lots of citrus etc... It sucked being sick pregnant.

Oh, I'm so sorry you're sick! I am 33 weeks and just got over a cold--and it sucked. I did end up taking Benedryl (diphenhydramine) which my mw says is fine. I was still pretty nervous about it but nothing else was really working--and honestly even that didn't work all the way, but it did allow me to sleep. The neti pot works when the congestion isnt' quite so bad but it has its limits! You can also use vicks vaporub, which helps take the edge off.

Feel better!
