Hi everyone--

I thought I remembered there being a thread about this, but I can't find it. Can anyone can point me there, if it exists, so we don't rehash it here?

I'm doing the 28-week glucose screening test this week. My instructions are to eat a light lunch before I drink the stuff, timing it so I finish the drink 1 hour before the blood draw.

Can anyone advise me on:
1. How long before I drink the stuff should I eat lunch?
2. What should I eat? They did advise me against fruit and "sugar," but I was hoping for a more specific recommendation.

I'm not trying to "trick the test" in anyway, of course--just want to not feel sick, and to cut down my chances of a false positive, if that's possible.

Thanks in advance, Nina

We are on the same wavelength.... I just updated my original thread where
I asked this same question! I don't know how to link, but it should be on pg 1 of this board.

Belia--thank you for bumping up your post--exactly the info I was looking for.
Glad the test went well for you.

Thanks again, N

You dont need to drink that weird stuff, with my MW for my second daughter i ad a special lunch 2 hours before the appointment. I believe it was 2 slices of white bread with butter, one egg and a small glass of orange juice.
And with that i didnt had to drink the nasty stuff, and i didnt need to sit around for an hour for it to kick in.

1. How long before I drink the stuff should I eat lunch?

Depends- I've had 2 different types of tests- 1 is a full fast (nothing after midnight) the 2nd was a 2 hr fast. I believe the levels they test for are different thresholds of acceptability

2. What should I eat? They did advise me against fruit and "sugar," but I was hoping for a more specific recommendation.

I was told eggs and dry toast so that's what I ate (blech and blech). I'd specifically ask if you can b/c I'm not sure about the toast and carbs. Something high in protein without sugars.

If you want a more accurate picture about your blood sugar do not take the test. Instead get a blood sugar monitor and monitor it throughout the day for a few days. Its a lot more accurate than the sugar drink test.

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?
