Honest opinion here!!! What do you think of this name? Does it go with our dd's name, Clare? The middle names are Amanda Ruth and not negotiable. Josephine Amanda Ruth? What do you think?

It's a beautiful name. And I think it sounds wonderful with Amanda Ruth

It is also on my list. It would be in honor of my Grandfather (Joseph). I was also thinking of other variations: Josepha and Josephina

Its a very classic name, with lots of history, goes fine with Clare and your middle names. Josepha is also nice, but is harder to say with Amanda.

I would think about nicknames, because unlike Clare, Josephine has a lot of possible nicknames. If you hate nicknames it might be difficult to avoid them...if you like nicknames it might be good to decide which one you like best to avoid one getting chosen for you. (Jo, Joey, Josie, Seph, Feeny) My mother's cousin is named Josephine and loves the name because she's "Jo" when she wants to be casual, but her whole name when she wants formality.

Here is what I am thinking about nicknames...maybe Josie, but I'm not sold on it. I don't know if we can avoid it though it is such a common nickname for Josephine. Also, I love Sophie, which I read is a nickname for Josephine--but do you think that is to far fetched?

I love the name Josephine, but I may be a bit biased as it is what we are using for our daughters middle name. Its a family name, and it was very important to me that it be passed on. It was my grandmother's name, and everyone called her "Jo".

Love it. Josephine and Claire are both pretty classic names and work well together. Josephine was pretty high on our girl's name list.

I could see Sophie. Our Josephine prefers "Joie" (like joey). Also, I've heard of nicknames:
Fifi, Jody, Joe, Joey, Jose, Josie, Jo, JoJo, Fina, Pien and Posey

I love it. We'll be using it as a middle name as it's my gramma's name (she's 94 and still awesome as ever).

I like Phina as a nickname.

Ooh I forgot about Posie, that's a cute nickname. If you want to do Sophie I don't think its much of a stretch, you could also do Sephie which is a little more unusual and I kind of like Or you can insist that she just be called Josephine, if you are insistant about it at the beginning than it usually sticks, at least until she's a teenager and has her own plan of what she wants to be called.

As the mother of a Josephine, i it. (she is the nursing smilie, you can see her if you want, my smilies are clickable.)
Our little one is Josie, Josa, or Feeney. I also like Sephie, i had never thought of it.

Courtney and Cree, baby made 3, added one more then there were 4, sakes alive, then we had 5, another in the mix now we have 6!

A Momma in love with her Little Women-Jewel Face, Jo Jo Bean, June Bug, and Sweet Coraline.

Great choice! Interestingly, Josephine is again picking up in popularity (it was #1 in the 1910s) - Josephine baby name

I love it!! I am considering it but because it is so popular, I am considering other names, too.

Jo March is one of my favorite literary characters, so it has a special meaning for me in that way.
