We are all sick at my house. My throat is *so* sore. I've been drinking orange juice/sprite, and that was helping for awhile, but it's not so much anymore. I was wondering if cough drops are safe while you are pregnant? I didn't see any warning on them that says *not* to, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are safe. If it's not a good idea to take them, does anyone have any suggestions/ideas about what I can do? I can't sleep.

Tea with lemon and honey sometimes works for me, but I don't have any tea, any lemons, or any honey. TIA!

When in doubt, ask the pharmacist! You can call your local Walgreens or CVS, or whatever, and ask for the pharmacist on the phone if you need to. They are usually happy to answer questions, even about over-the-counter medication.

Edited to add:
If nothing else, you CAN have fruit popsicles (you don't want dairy or chocolate when you have a cold), applesauce, warm soup, etc. All of those should help soothe your throat a bit, and won't be hard to swallow.

I've never had problems. When I get a sore throat I like to suck on Chloreseptic drops because they numb my throat.

Not about cough drops, but try doing a lukewarm saltwater (1 cup of water dissolving 1-2 tsp salt) gargle 2-3 times a day (spitting the water out afterward, of course). When you gargle, go through high and low pitches, getting the salt into every crevice. It can help reduce swelling, which will make your throat feel better.

I think it would depend on the ingredients. I use the Luden brand which is basically corn syrup and flavoring. (Normally wouldn't be eating corn syrup but for a sore throat I think it is better than more meds going into my uterus.) I would be careful with herbal ones unless you know the herbs in them are safe for pregnancy.
