I can see where it can be confusing considering that some mdc members find the word butt offensive...so if we are supposed to go by what offends people then we all better start talking like we are in church or something,

Trying again--- it sounds as if what MDC is asking is that people try to be generally civil. I'm not aware of many public places where it's OK to walk around cussing like a sailor, unless maybe you're actually on a ship, so maybe people could just write the same way they would speak if they were in a public place. I don't find it unreasonable, when one is taking part of a community with widely varying standards, to have a general rule that asks members to please attempt to be mindful of others. To be fair, I get the confusion though. It does seem as if MDC is asking members to adhere to a certain standard of civility without actually wanting to be the one to say nono.gif. But after listening to everyone complain about there being too many rules, I also can understand why MDC might want to try stepping back and seeing if people can govern themselves.

Right.  I mean, use some common sense.  If you were in front of your grandma (though, I suppose it depends on the grandma - ;)) would you let a crap or damn or even sh*t slip occasionally?  Maybe, but you probably wouldn't be dropping f-bombs in everyday conversation with her.  Same at work, or as AM is saying, in a public location.

I happen to swear a lot IRL, but I know there is a time and place for it.  I also happen to be able to curb that when on message boards or social networking sites (which may be b/c people like my mom are on FB, but ykwim).

I'm not getting why it all has to be clearly spelled out - use some tact. shrug.gif  MDC is a parenting site, and even from lurking for 10 minutes one would realize that the board culture is not such that a ton of profanity is acceptable.

Perhaps the confusion is that people are interpreting the new UA to say "Hey, all boundaries are down! You can do and say whatever you want now!" (unless we can catch you breaking an unspoken rule) when in fact what it's actually saying is "You all are adults and we trust you to treat each other with respect and do what is right." I could be way off base though. shrug.gif

So someone asks you to edit. Big deal. It's not like they're saying if you use the "F-bomb" your first born will be confiscated.
