Can we do something like TBC.To Be Continued....I am so it seems anyways...in the midle of typing a reply, and a baby wakes up or something else that requires me to stop, and post right in the middle of what I was saying. If everyone knew what TBC meant we could just type it at the bottom of our posts and no one would get upset.Everyone would totally understand, and come back to it when you have a chance.........Just a thought.I will be putting it in my posts anyways, but if you added it to this list,it would make it more aware,ya know?

Dearest Mothering Friends:

Thank you for cluing me in on all of this shorthand. It is great! The birth of a new language. English is such a versatile language and we live in such a wonderful age.

There are shorthand secret messages my dh and ds's and dd have worked up for our pagers!

Could I add a couple I like to use?

EBM--expressed breast milk. Your baby is either bfed or EBMfed. I hate when people call breastmilk bm--ick, that's bowel movement in my book!

ABM--artificial baby milk. I hate to call it formula as that makes it sound too scientific and legitimate.

EBF--extended breastfeeding. Most of the time, here, that means past one year (in mainstream society, of course, anthing past 3 months is extended!)

why is it Dear Son and Dear Husband, etc, and not just Husband (H) and son (s) ? why the dear? i can see using it on occasion to be affectionate, but it has always been awkward for me to put DH DS all the time. i just dont talk that way IRL so it seems odd to type it... well i guess i dont really think about it now, im so used to it, but i am still wondering.....

Yeah, I wonder this too, stirringleaf. Does anyone know how this convention originated? It seems very artificial. But remember, the "D" could alternately be "dear" or "damn" depending on your mood. :LOL

:LOL ... yeah, i usually just refer to them as "my son" and "my boyfriend".. as for the artificiality, i feel this way sometimes too, but when i see it i use it as a reminder that when it comes down to it, they really are dear. (and dorky..)

I was told you could consider it sarcastically, as well. darling husband - or you could substitute another d - i think having 2 letters help differentiate between another meaning. plus, it seems to be historical, not limited to this board

I have often wondered how "dh" and "dd" and all the rest originated! I have seen them on every message board I've been to. They seem quite universal. Also "AF," it just seems so overly quaint and tactful, but again, I've seen it used consistently on many boards. And it is quick and easy to type. Wonder how long these abbreviations have been around and how they originally got started.

Perhaps to make it a two letter abreviation? Just saying "S is sleeping" could mean that you mis-typed something. =)

Hmmmm... beats me. Did you see it in a post on the board? Maybe given a sentence so it's in the context of the discussion I could figure it out.

tmi = too much information, as in personal information

ex. 'When dh and I were bd'ing last night we were interrupted by ds and dd who wanted to know if they could watch tv - oops, tmi!"

babydancing, ie having sex to try to conceive

(i think there's also an acronym list somewhere in the ttc board, which is where i learned a lot of the more obscure ones i saw popping up elsewhere)

I've seen this recently at the beginning of posts, almost used as if addressing someone, but I can't figure it out or don't see a correlation with anyone on the thread:

b'h

or

bs'd
