I dislike seeing the old schoolhouse ad running here

it makes me really sad to see it here at mothering at the top of the forum in a banner, I do not think the convictions of the parents involved with this magazine regarding child training & spanking go along with the majority of mothering mamas
http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine.com...ws.php?rid=255

there are other Christian parenting offerings that could run adds that espouse more of the ideals I hold myself to as a Catholic mom

http://www.mothering.com/community_t...unishment.html we don't need to hit our kids to parent effectively, most all mothering moms understand that
i would hate to think a new homeschooler here would be led into their Old schoolhouse site and swayed by their reviews to believe most successful homeschoolers are like that

the sign of a good parent is not how convienent you can make raising children
you can be a strong positive parent and be a very gentle one in tandem

I am just bummed seeing it, am tired and that got me down our world certainly does not need anymore help learning to be violent to solve problems

I haven't seen that ad yet but the site looks like it is definitely not in line with what Mothering encourages. Maybe try posting in Questions & Suggestions or PM Cynthia about it. I think there was a similar ad situation recently where the site the banner linked to was all about disciplining children. I think MDC had to let it run for the time it paid for but refused to remew it after that.

Holy Cow...I hadn't seen the ad yet but the review linked in your post is a positive review for a training video by the Pearls.

Yeah, I'd say way outside Mothering's AP/NFL practices.

The main page has THE PEARL's on there - the people who say you should switch your 6mo with a weed wacker chord!!!!!! There is NO WAY this belongs on mothering!

Wow… That “child training” crap they're yapping about on that page really irks me. I am not too familiar with that site or the Pearls but it definitely doesn’t look like something I’d ever imagine being promoted on MDC! :

In response to concerns about the review, we communicated with the owner who feels that there are many other positive things that the site has to offer. We're under contract with her for one month and will honor that contract.

So if a formula company wanted to advertise here it would be ok just so long as they paid for their ad and included "many other positive things"? Capitalism at it's finest. :Puke

I understand that there must be some legalities behind the contract so that you are unable to just cancel it, but does nobody check out the websites of those wanting to put up banners here before hand???

This is shocking. It’s totally inconsistent with the guidelines for posting in the GD forum.

I think it's more a matter of something that was not noticed and the contract was accepted and begun. So we will complete the contract.

I'm not sure what advertising guidelines Mothering presents it's potential advertisers as stipulations. But I wonder if they could put something as ambiguous as "no reviews for any product or philosohy we disagree with" as a term of agreement.

I usually just post in my due date group, but I saw this in the New Posts and just had to add a resounding -- are you freakin' kidding me??!!? I have fortuntately never read the Pearl's words of "wisdom" before - and I'm floored. Did anyone happen to read the section on how to deal with a "slick liar" - unreal!! 10 licks at noon everyday for a week. Honestly, I had no idea people even used terms like "licks" and "switch" anymore - except in movies. So scary!

Ew. The Pearls?!?!

Cynthia, I understand that MDC is bounc to honor a contract.

Maybe if we all sent them emails letting them know our distaste, they would voluntarily withdraw the ad?

Then perhaps future contracts need to be changed to state that if there site is found not be in alignment with Mothering.com the contract is null and void and spell out what type of content is NOT permitted.

Seriously?

I cna't believe mdc accepted an ad for this I am stunned and ashamed. Right on the homepage, big article:

Quote:
Joy of Training, The
Michael and Debi Pearl in Seminar

What do I do when my child throws a fit? How old should my child be when I start training him? How can I have peace in my home and homeschool? Should I allow my child to associate with non-Christians? What happens when I discipline in anger? Can there really be joy in child training?

How would you like to have homeschooling's foremost experts in child training, Michael and Debi Pearl, in your very own living room answering these questions and many more, plus sharing stories and insights on how they trained their children and how you can better train yours?
Um. No thanks?

I realize this might seem like a far-out suggestion, but given they are quoting THE PEARLS on their main page, couldn't Mothering consider giving them their money back? I have Paypal. I would help pay to replace the income this would have generated.

I dont get it :

I am watching this threadwith interest, when i have clicked on a banner ad and been on to the websites advertised i usually get the impression that the advertisers are involved somehow in the NFL/AP lifestyle, so im wondering how these people came to think MDC was a suitable place to put their banner ad.

I dont get the spinning thing either. Anyway, i'm guessing they placed the ad because were a rather large home schooling community.

Seriously?
