I have photos on shutterfly and also yahoo that I'm trying to make available on a MDC thread. However on both the sites, you have to type in email addresses of people to share the photos with. How can I have a link on a MDC thread that goes directly to these photos on these sites? I've looked at the help section on both sites but can't seem to find more options for sharing other than direct email &/or instant messaging. Am I missing something?

I know lots of people on MDC use these links but can't figure out how to do it myself. Please help! Thanks

I'll try to make this as simple as possible. If I don't succeed, you can PM me.

If you're wanting to direct link from any photo sharing site, you'll need the url. The url is NOT the url that's in the address bar of your browser.

In Shutterfly I believe you go to the sharing tab (tell your friends or something like that?) and you'll see spaces to enter email addresses. The link is right there so there is no need for email addresses. Just copy that link, paste it in your thread here and you're all set.

I've never used Yahoo photos so I'm not sure about that one. Like I said, PM me if this isn't clear.

I figured out how to get the url to post a link for pictures, but how do you turn a long url address into visually something simple like others do - where it then simply reads something like my picture ??? and then one can click on those words and see the picture.

When you'd like to make your link a word(s), you'll need to use this code: url /url. Apply brackets around both (I would type it in but again, it disappears when I hit submit). In the first brackets you need an equal sign after the url. (I would put it in but then it disappears when I hit submit.) In between these brackets ][ you can put ]my picture[ or whatever. Here's an example:

Mothering

ETA: It's very hard to type out and explain so I'm sure this is as clear as mud.

Let me see if I can set this up without automatically creating a link:

[ url=www.mothering.com]Mothering

Omit the space after the first and before the last bracket and you get this:

Mothering

Sure. There's a "test" section to this forum. Go there and post until you can do it.

[ url=http://im1.shutterfly]yada yada yada ???

Becomes

yada yada yada ???

to put in html or vB coding so it shows the actual coding, then use the "post reply" or "quote", you then use the < > button above to wrap the coding up in the [ html ] [ /html ]

example
yada yada yada ???
which becomes ... yada yada yada ???

Can anyone help me with this? I am getting super frustrated. I've wasted too much time on this & I STILL can't get it.

When I asked for help on the Kodak Gallery they said I can't share my URL on a 3rd party site. WTH?

They might not want to deal with the bandwidth issues of storing on their site and then linking to another site. I don't know.

Photobucket lets you do this pretty easily. I can do it on Yahoo too.

ZanZansmommy, the URL in your link doesn't look specific enough. It doesn't have anything that references you as a user or a specific photo or anything.
