Sunflowers, did you find out? Isn't it kind of like, designing a planet to figure out the ultimate answer to life the universe and everything, only to have it spew out "42" ?

Ahem. This thread was great fun and I want it back again.

Does anyone really know why people care about their post counts, free vodka not withstanding?

I don't buy that, Kitty. I feel it is the quality of posts that counts, not the amount.
I would rather have one Godiva buttercream than 10 cheap ones.

The problem with saying that quality manners over quanitity in regards to post counts is that other members can't see "quality" in your stats. They nly see quantity, and while it is true that QUALITY does mean much more than quantity, that is hard to prove.

Post counts are a status symbol and for some a sign of membership. Your post counts say, "this person must know a great deal about this community." It also may say, "don't question me, I know what I've been talking about."

BUT, if I see a high post count and a very recent join date, I wonder why or how someone can accumulate 3,000 posts in 2 months and have 3 children (this is pulled from the farthest reaches of my buttocks and does not represent any ONE member here- cappeche?)

I probably take those people less seriously?
I do value the long time members here much more even if I usually disagree with them, no matter how many posts they have. I know they have been through many changes here at MDC and can offer great advice/knowledge.

Yeah, maybe sometimes quantity is better.
Easier to read, too.
And a few shots of VV makes everything seem really deep and meaningful.
