A year ago I foolishly chose one of my favorite potential baby names as my username. Well, now that I've decided on that name for my daughter, I'm no longer comfortable keeping it as my username.

The "username change" section in FAQs doesn't actually explain HOW to do it, just that you pay through paypal. Can someone explain it to me please?

Thanks!

I'm sorry...maybe it's the sleep deprivation, but I still don't get it.
I don't know how to use paypal. Can you tell me where to start? Is there a web page, or do I send an email to mdcadvertising? Thank you.

Go to www.paypal.com and set up an account. Then you can send a payment to MDC using the MDC email to have your name changed. Hope this helps!

I'm so sorry! I didn't realize you didn't know how to use PayPal.

In addition to setting up a PayPal account and sending funds from it, there are also other ways to pay without using PayPal. Let me grab the link with the detailed info for you.

Here you go: Paying Without Paypal

I hope that helps more. Please just ask if you need further assistance.

do our old posts get saved and listed under the new user name, or does it start over at post #1?

Is it possible to change my username? I don't want to deceive anyone, I just want to change so that I can disconnect more from my "real life" persona. I would keep my old username in my title for some time if necessary.

Thanks...

You can!

I'm combining a few threads so the answers re: name changes are all in one place. There is also more information in the FAQ linked in my signature should anyone need it.

currently, entering my username in search engines brings up links to some of my posts here. i am considering changing my username because someone looking up a ski resort would get several results of my posts.
question:
if i change my username, will someone looking up said ski resort still get links to my posts, this time under the new username? as in, they click because it comes up current name, and what pops up is that old post (because it was archived on the search engine that way?) but with my new username? and thus that person could surf all my posts, siggy pix, etc.?

gosh, I don't think I'm being very clear, sorry.

I'm just trying to avoid having someone stumble onto my username via a search engine as happens now.

any insight appreciated before I decide to change username or just start all over with a new username ( and loose all my old posts and post count )

Sierra- I just changed my username. No, the search engine will not get your posts with the new username. Search engines automatically update with changes in the forums. The only exception would be posts where people used your username in the reply, because that username will not be changed, as it's text. So you would need to search for those posts, then contact the user who posted them, and ask them to change it.

By the way- thanks mods for the prompt username change.

I've checked ggl and still the same, links to my posts. I will try to change the first one that comes up by contacting the poster to edit that username out, but the others are where someone quoted me and just regular posts.

Sierra- I didn't see any of your posts in the first 200 Google results, anyway. At least, not just by typing in your old user name. When I typed in your old user name and "mothering" (i.e. "s* t* mothering") nothing came up within the first 200 posts, either.

Maybe your browser hadn't refreshed the search page?

hmmmm, i don't know. old username was spelled all one word, and when I do that, the fifth (and sixth, as it is indented under the 5th) hits are to me, with more on the second ggl page and so on. I am wondering if time will make that happen less; but I'm doubtful since that 5th hit takes the ggler to a post from 11 months ago.

I see. I didn't use one word. Do you think lot of people type in one word when looking for that resort?

What a bummer.

However, there are only 30 results altogether. Perhaps you could contact the owners of those posts, since they are all references to quotes by you?

Just curious how long it usually takes for a name change? I sent PP on Sunday to change my user name (so it matches what I use on other forums). It's nothing urgent, I'm just wondering. Thanks!

And I'm also wondering how long it takes.

I transferred the money to PayPal.
The money was collected by mothering on October 16th.
I included my current user name in the notes as well as the user name I would like, but PayPal (Firefox) wouldn't allow me to type in the name I wanted, which is ~Purity♥Lake~

Firefox wouldn't allow me to use the heart.

So, I've sent three emails to the mothering administration and have heard nothing from them.

It has now been 10 days since my request.
Not only has my user name not been changed, even though mothering has had my $2.50 since the 16th, but no one has contacted me or responded to my email questions at all.

I found this thread and thought it's my best chance of getting any kind of response.

Oh crap.

I um, that is totally my fault. Someone ELSE with Abigail in their name changed their name and well, I kind of overlooked it as I mixed them up. I am a huge dork.

My dd's name is Abigail and so you know...Abi/Abigail :

I can do that now. Many apologies. That was completely and totally my fault.

Thank you, Abimommy.

I can totally understand the confusion.

Many Abigail's.
And here I thought I was being original when I named my daughter.

Yeah I know : a perfectly sweet old fashioned name.

It was one of my great grandmother's names. How little did we know of the horde of Abigails that would be sweeping the nation.

I noticed this thread is several years old.  Are we still able to send the $2.50 to get a username change?
