Mmm - yes - clearly most of us. I just found this one from about an hour ago. I wonder though if this is getting progressively worse? I can't see that are less than an hour old...

Is it worth going through and trying to isolate those who still have the ability to start posts? I certainly wouldn't know what to try once I found out...???

I haven't been able to make a new post since early afternoon. And I've also started cutting and pasting this message at the end of all my messages, just so I can post.

(The page at http://mothering.com says: The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 50 characters.)

Okay, I don't read signatures, but I had no idea that there were children posting on this board. They should have a bold title stating that they are children, that way I'll know if I am taking advice from a child or an adult.

I like minimum character idea. Maybe not 50, but at least 20-25.

I can't start a new thread either. It won't let me type in the title box.

Re: following multi-quotes if you edit out most of the message to multiquote to keep your multiquote from getting too long, then people have to click and go back to read the rest of what you edited out, thus causing more clicks on the thread anyway. Just my experience in long chats though where someone can be replying to something that was written days before and you don't remember what was written.

I missed that age thing too. I didn't realize that the mothering crowd had gotten so diverse...

Um, isn't the 20 second delay on post supposed to cut down on all this? Maybe that 20 second delay should just be changed to a 30 second delay or something if it is not doing enough?

Sorry, I went to check and there is absolutely nothing on age restrictions in the rules that I read. Also, nothing that says you actually have to be a mother either.

I support a minimum character limit, though I think 50 might be too many. 25 seems like a good compromise.

I know that it can be hard to type more than a certain number of characters sometimes if you are nak or just don't have words to say at the time (I've often posted a or in a thread too). But if having a limit means that MDC can stay up, I think it's worth a shot. No one gets to type anything if the board is going down all the time.

well, i have seen threads saying that that is what certain posters were doing. It got around the 20 second limit. It wouldn't help with the 50 character minimum.

Honest they do. The same population of people you find on MDC just don't use Yahoo IM or AIM.

I guess... but my chat group thread has more members then can be dealt with in an IM chat instance. And I don't have a separate real life vs cyber life IM so if I give you my IM chances are you know my name and I don't tend to put THAT much information out there in the "getting to know you" cyber world. And without the chats, how would you know you wanted to go to an IM where it is more one on one anyway?

but you cant talk with a number of people at once in a chat room type of format in IM's, plus, do you actually use IM services? they are always going down, and the service overal IMO is slow and outdated.

maybe its like last time there was a vb update, the IE users had thread titles out of wack, maybe this is just another glitch.

It's do-able with Yahoo.

There's also free chat rooms, too. Like Lingr or Gabbly (you can create a private password only room).
