OK - thanks for the update, but FYI - it feels a little snarky. Yours is the first response to this thread that says someone is actually working on the issue, which, by the way, I appreciate. However, that response sounds like my questions were ridiculous, and considering that up to your post no one had come out and said that anyone was actually working on it, makes my questions not terribly ridiculous. They could have not been working on it for a number of reasons, e.g., money, knowledge... We just wanted to know what was going on.

We have been switched over to a different server and hopefully that will help.

Though, it did take 15 minutes for a page to load for me earlier. :

I run 2 vBulletin boards, and one thing you may want to consider that will probably help at least somewhat is capping threads at 1000 posts each. Threads with a lot of posts put a serious strain on the server, especially if they're active threads.

Ahh it's doing it to me too. The other day when I made my first posts, I went back to check, the page wouldn't load and I thought great, the site is busted already lol =\

I'm very sorry for all the problems.

We had a processor upgrade in January which seemed to help. But soon after we began having more problems. Optimizing of Apache and MySQL worked for awhile but then over the weeks problems built again. More tweaking and things improved but still we had sporadic issues. Our server admin found table locking to be the problem so we he switched the particular tables over to innodb format and that did improve things, which you noticed a couple/few weeks back. Now again we are having issues and increasing. A few changes have been made over the past few days - switching to litespeed and, just today, enabling memcached. This should resolve our problems for now.

We appreciate your membership, your participation, your patience and your ongoing support. It is not really a money issue. Nor is it a lack of concern for the online community. It is clear that the upgrade that was done for us by our hosting company in January was insufficient for future growth.

We will get this resolved and I am so sorry it is taking so long. It really shouldn't have dragged on. So with approval for the upgrade to new servers to handle our current traffic and load and give us plenty of room to grow over the year, we will get that done as soon as possible.

Well, things were going pretty good but we have had another setback. Litespeed does not support side server includes which we use for some of our software. So we have had to switch back to apache. This means we may start having slow and no loading of pages at high traffic times. But it also means that we are going to move asap to an entirely new server cluster that can give us the capacity we need. We are making that request tomorrow morning. If the servers are available and ready to be set up for us we will be moving very soon. If anything has to be special ordered it will take longer. I will update when I know more.

So bad news and good news all bundled up. Thanks for your patience. It may be a bit frustrating at times if Apache can't deal but hopefully this is the light at the end of the tunnel.

Wow! I'm surprised to see so many complaints still ... since the Big Shutdown a day or two ago MDC has been working great for me!

Thanks to the admins working dilligently to give the MDCjunkies their fix.

Thanks for the input LacieD. We've never really come to a firm conclusion about that because the info at vBulletin itself varies. Check out this thread. This thread this one says pretty clearly that it's not an issue at all.

I have read others say 1000 posts max to avoid server issues. But I've found nothing to support that. Have you? If so please share.

Major issues here. Up one second and down the next. My fave is when I type something and then lose it! I'm pretty new so glad to hear it's temporary...

Just copy paste everything you type, I have that problem too. When I go to post a reply the site decides to stall and be forever loading so I get tired of waiting and just X out of the browser and start over, and I've got my reply copied so I'm good to go

I have, but I'll be damned if I can find it! One of my members asked a long time ago why we had the 1000 posts rule, and I did a bunch of research, but now I can't find the explanation/links to back it up. I'll keep looking and let you know.

OK, I found the post I made about it, but I'm still looking for the thread on vbulletin.com where I read this.

Every time you display a thread, it tells MySQL to grab all posts and then view the ones that the user is allowed to see (not posts in moderation, soft deleted, etc.) and THEN it takes the first 15 posts, or whatever your posts per page setting is.

So the more posts a thread has, the more it has to work to pull those posts from the database.

Thank you for the update Cynthia. It's nice to know that steps are being taken to fix the issue.

Like Heather, I've taken to right-click copying all of my posts before I hit the reply button, so I don't lose what I've just written if it doesn't post correctly.

If you can write the times you are getting crapped it is more helpful, since they can check their logs and see what's going on.

Ugh, I'm having issues with this all the time. I log on from 3 different computers and it's the same everywhere. I visit this forum much less often than my other favorites mostly because it never seems to work right.

As to specifics, the most recent -

Today (April 9) at 1:14pm EDT

It was a quickie, only took me 3 tries to get on.
