This is a great story, and as you mentioned totally unlike what most women would do in their situation. It reminded me of Ina May's book Guide to Childbirth where she makes it clear that when you manifest things they come to pass. It seems like the father really wanted to make it to both events.  Thanks for sharing!

I thought my dh was impressive for defending his masters thesis 36 hours after the homebirth of our son (and subsequent post-partum hemmorage)
