Hey all! I am looking to have my first homebirth (fourth child) and am wondering how to go about finding a midwife. My first 2 were c-sections, my 3ed a vaginal hospital birth but I am still considered a VBAC. We just moved to New Jersey from Colorado just a few months ago and I don't know many people out here. The problem is out here it is illegal for a midwife to attend a homebirth VBAC. How do I go about finding midwife? I have talked to a few who have told me that if I go to NY it is legal there, but that sorta defeats the point of being in my own home for the birth of this baby. I don't want to get anyone in trouble. Any advice??

Home birth VBAC is legal in MT I know for sure.....  Not that that is probably very helpful.  I would post your queston in the Finding your tribe forum and the Birth professionals forum.

Have you tried ICAN? There are some traveling midwives who will come to you (one is from MT). I talked to one when I was planning my HBA3C with my last one. They come and stay with you when you agree for them to come (usually a week or so before your due). It's an option.

Have you been able to get anyone to interview with? That's how I found mine. There are some midwives who are willing to practice outside of regulations so there might be one out there who is willing to do it for you in NJ, especially if you've already had a successful VBAC. That's a little different than a first time VBAC in the eyes of some.

There have been instances where a midwife "friend" was over for dinner when mom decided to have the baby "before they could get to the hospital". :)

Sorrry, I have a late entry into my practice. She had been seeing a CNM out of state and has transferred her care to me, as I am a CNM. I am now unavailable to travel.
