Is it ok to birth in just a regular ol' bathtub? DH and I are talking homebirth for whenever we decided on another baby, and I really just don't understand why we don't have the baby in the bathtub instead of renting or buying a separate birthing pool. Did anyone else have a home waterbirth in their bathtubs? Mine is your standard tub...

Our bathtub is not a standard size (well, we have two other bathrooms with standard tubs, but I didn't birth in those) and I had our last two babies in it.

If you are comfortable it doesn't matter. The only issue with standard tubs is they really don't go deep enough to cover the belly, but like I said, if you are comfortable it doesn't matter. smile.gif

I have a normal-sized tub, and my MW said it would be fine to use it for labor. I think someone in The Business of Being Born has a baby in a little apartment bathtub.

:-o That tub is GORGEOUS!

I labored in my bathtub with DS before going to the birth center, and it eased my contractions, even though it didn't cover the belly... so maybe that won't be too big of an issue..
