Hi all! My name is Hannah and I am currently a senior at Trinity University. I am doing a research project and writing a thesis in order to graduate, and my topic is about the unnecessary medicalization of birth. I have trained to be a midwife in Denmark, but I do not know many American mothers who have chosen to have children at home without medical interventions. I have designed a very short and simple survey to get some feedback from both current mothers and future mothers of children born naturally. It should only take about 3 to 5 minutes to complete and I would greatly appreciate this as it will be an important element to my research. The survey is completely anonymous and will not be directly quoted in any way. Here is the link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NMT9N59.
Thank you and have a wonderful day,
Have you discussed this approach, or the survey you've written, with your thesis advisor at all? There are at least two serious problems with the survey that might render your data unusable, and it would be a shame for you to invest a ton of time and not be able to make sense or use of your results.
I planned a natural homebirth and it didn't happen. Doulas and midwives are different, and a homebirth midwife is different than a hospital based midwife especially when it comes to how much time they can spend with you. Please keep in mind natural births happen at hospitals every day.
Indeed, this strikes me as one of the fundamental problems with the survey, that the questions draw a distinction between "natural birth" and "hospital birth", while the definition at the top of the page does not. If you're asking about home birth, that's one thing, but it's not clear that you are.
