We are going with a homebirth CNM and the total cost is $7,500. She told us she would be out of network but I applied for a waiver as there are no homebirth midwives in network for my plan (BCBS Illinois). I expected they would turn it down and I would have to appeal but I just heard today that they approved it and she will be considered in network. This could save us up to $7,500 (depending on how much they cover and what codes she uses etc. etc. - ugh I find insurance so confusing (I'm English living in the US). Anyway I'm just so excited and I'm so glad I took the time to challenge it. I feel a whole lot better about things now...
