On 2/15 I labored for 10 hours with contractions being two minutes apart and one minute long. The midwife came over and said I was 4cm dilated and baby engaged. After about 10 hours of contractions, labor just stopped.
On Sunday I had my "bloody show" and it continued on Monday. Monday night at 10:30pm I went into labor again with contractions being 40 seconds apart and lasting 1.5-2.5 minutes. After 6 hours of labor, the midwife checked me again and I was 10cm at the top with my cervix funneling down into 7cm with my water bag bulging. After 8 hours of labor, my contractions stopped again.
I'm still getting a few painful ctx off and on, but nothing worth timing. Baby is so low it hurts to walk and I have back pain from him being posterior. My midwife thinks his chin isn't tucked so that's why my cervix is dilating the way it is and why I have an anterior cervical lip. I've tried several exercises on spinningbabies to try and get him to tuck his chin and flip to anterior but nothing is working.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get labor going again or to get him in an optimal position? Anyone had a labor like this? I feel like the only one. I'm emotionally exhausted from this labor pattern.
fyi I'm 38w6d and this is my 2nd baby
I can only imagine how physically and emotionally draining that is! Without a doubt my fastest birth was the baby that was in perfect birthing position for weeks before birth. How we managed that was water! If you have a pool available, I suggest going for a swim. I did water aerobics up until the day #3 was born. The water, and stretching in it, took gravity off my joints do my body could adjust to proper alignment. That in turn allowed baby to be in proper alignment. If that isn't and option, cranial sacral therapy is another route to get you in alignment, so baby can be in alignment.
Wishing you a wonderful birthing!

Peace love light magic.
Apparently this is actually a pretty common pattern for second labours (I remember reading this on Ask Moxie - she's great for picking up on those patterns that don't seem to get mentioned in the textbooks!).
As for getting labour going, I recall reading that some small studies have shown nipple-tweaking to increase the chances of women going into labour (presumably because of the prostaglandins released), but you have to do it for something like three hours out of the day, so you may or may not feel this to be feasible in practice.
Thanks for the replies ladies! I'm happy to say on Saturday I gave birth to my baby boy at home in the water four hours after my water broke. I'm actually glad in a way my labor played out the way it did otherwise I would have had 22 hours straight of labor instead of it being on three separate days. As I guessed he would, he stayed facing posterior until right before and turned at the last second, coming out facing my thigh. In the end, I'm just glad he's here!
Also connect deep within yourself and see if there is a reason you could be psychologically/emotionally/spiritually stopping the dilation. There could be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed before your body can release. I feel as though there were a few things that I needed to address before labor but I should have just even then done so if I could think of anything besides my 30 hours of posterior/crooked position, up/down dilations too and after looking back on it I now know what I need to heal. I will remember for next birth and have partner remind me also-- so maybe I shall act as the person to remind you now? Hope it helps. Also you could try some evening primrose oil in the cervix to help soften even more to allow for the bottom to stretch I accommodate, for something physical to try.
Peace love light magic.
I think your suggestion actually helped because about three hours after I had a good venting over how I felt about the way my labor had been progressing, my water broke. Four hours after that I finally had my little boy!
