Well Im not pregnant yet and was going to go unassisted but FINALLY found not one but THREE midwives here that will do homebirth BUT i just stopped working and im just babysitting now so i have no insurance except medicaid (no i am not a welfare whore but yes i do have medical) and i want to know if medicaid covers homebirth in ohio (im pretty sure it does not) so i may have to go unassisted anyway! o well! just looking for answers

You could just call up the midwives and ask if they accept it. My mw here in Seattle does. In fact, the state insurance pays 100% whereas our crappy (EXPENSIVE) insurance through dh's work does not.

I was in OH for my last delivery. We did not have Medicaid but our income at the time was low enough to qualify for it. I had found a Midwife that would take me but the insurance we had wouldn't cover any homebirth related expenses. I talked to the midwife about using Medicaid since we could not afford her fee but she told me that Medicaid would not pay for homebirth either. I don't know if they've changed it or not- this was 2 years ago.

I do not know if your state covers a midwife, but when I was pregnant the second time, after a hospital birth unexpected C Section..I worked with the midwife I found from a friend to make payments. That was the only way I'd have it still. Three homebirths later, I wouldnt change it for anything!
