I just watched More Business of Being Born: The VBAC Dilemma: What Your Options Really Are. Has anyone else seen it? I bought it on iTunes. I was thinking of offering to screen it for my local ICAN chapter. What did anyone think of it? For me, it was not earth-shattering information. It pretty much captured how I feel about this whole process: 51% hopeful, 49% terrified.
Some interesting stats from the first few minutes of the movie:
In the 80s, the VBAC rate reached 28%.
The current rate of women attempting VBAC is 8%, with about a 75% success rate. Interestingly, they note that another way to report that statistic is that over 90% of women have repeat caesarian sections. Which way sounds more encouraging to you? There's a lot to be said for the messenger here, I think.
They touch on the insurance companies who insure the doctors and about how one hospital said they were quoted lower insurance rates if they did NOT offer VBACs.
