Ok, ladies, I need to hear about your experiences. I'm having trouble finding research about this online, specifically.
For those of you who had successful VBAC's, how much time was between your C/S & your VBAC?
I had my first son via C/S in 3/06. Then had my second via C/S 15 mos. later in 6/07. Now I am pregnant with #3, due on 2/1/09. I haven't seen the dr. yet but am planning on pursuing a VBAC, barring any type of placental difficulties, etc. However, I am slightly concerned about the length of time between all these pregnancies. I've only read in 1-2 places that the ideal time is 18-24 mos. Between my last C/S & this VBAC, I'll have 20 mos. But I was also sliced open two times within 15 mos.! That may be the string that breaks the camels back and may be what causes them to oppose my attempt at VBAC. I just don't know.
Do you think this is something I should be worried about? What are your experiences? If you're aware of any research out there re: this, can you pls. share it with me. I can't really find anything re: it.
Mine were 20 months apart. My old OB recommended 18-24 months between any births, even without c/s or vbac, so your body will be healthy and rested. I've heard stories though of vbacs closer to a year after c/s though.
My first csecction was Sept 05... I got pg again just 4 months later and had another section (which was supposed to be vbac) 12 months, 2 weeks later, October 06. I was with a doctor then, and they had NO problem with me trying for my vbac after only 12 months. I ended up pregnant again and I am due August 8th. I am planning a homebirth VBAC after 2 sections. It will be about 22 months apart. I have not had any midwifes worried about the lenght of time between my sections and I interviewed alot. Good luck!
Statistically, 18-24 months *between deliveries* is optimal.
BTW...while the 2% UR statistic is thrown around for a VBA2C, that stat includes women who were induced. The stat for UR for a VBA2C with spontaneous (not induced) labor is only about 0.76%.
I got pregnant with #2 on #1's first birthday. So 21 months. I had a vbac, induced even! I got pregnant with #3 on #2's first birthday and am planning another vbac, of course!
I've been lurking here for months but I will post quickly...
First c/s was 5/99 for FTP, second was a ERCS for transverse twins 10/06 and number 3 is due exactly 22 months after my last c/s. The story I was given by a supportive MW, a kind of reluctant OB and a totally anti-VBAC OB was 18 months was ideal. HTH!
I've had 2 cs and 1 vba2c.
My first two c's were 4 years apart.
First c was a single layer stitch.
My second c and my vba2c were 15 months apart (I became pg about 6m after DS was born). Second c was a double layer stitch (and ob who stitched me was the chief on duty, and said if I were to have another baby, I would want another c since my uterus was so thin from having twins and another baby, and 2 c's.) But he approved me for a vba2c, even though I wasn't 'stastically' falling after the 2-year apart rule, and as long as I wasn't carrying an enormous baby 2 weeks late, as I did last time. DS was born at 38w, vba2c, and 8 lbs 10 oz.
My first VBAC was 18 mos 10 days after my c/s, then 23 mos (- 4 days, lol) later I had another VBAC, and now it'll be 27 mos later for another one. Good luck!
I think you are fine...plenty of people vbac within that range and are fine. I even know a couple women who have vbac'd with less spacing than you will have.
My c-section was in July 2000 and my first vbac was in Nov 2006 - so they were about 6years, 3 months apart. When I birth in late Nov/early Dec, my second vbac will be a couple weeks over two years after my first vbac and about 8 years, 5 months after my c-section.
