We'll arrive in mid-January. Just found out last week that DH was successful in getting a job he applied for, and his first day of work in the new job is 27th Jan. So we need to pack up our stuff, find someone to rent our house off us, find a rental property in inner city Sydney (omg the rents are ridiculous!!!), all over the Christmas/New Year break.

Are there any Sydney MDC'ers? I only know one person down there, and I'd like to meet other like-minded folks. I have a toddler, with another bubba on the way in early May.

Hi, I'm in Sydney, though SouthWest, not inner - costs in the middle of Sydney are out of our range! I've got a 2 1/2yr old and a 9month old, both beautiful boys. Good luck with your move - what a difficult time of year to be packing up and moving. Let me know if you need anything,
Mel

We've just found a place in Bondi Junction for $500/wk. It's going to cripple us financially. I can't believe how expensive rent is, compared with Brisbane. And it's just a pokey little 2 bedroom apartment with no garage, 4 floors up (no lift) and a shared laundry. But it's in a great position - 5 mins train ride for DH to get to work, which means he can be home really quickly if I need him (I had a rough time with DS in the newborn phase), and we're super close to Centennial Park, so DS is going to love having such a huge play space close by. Also within walking distance of the library and Westfield (for grocery shopping etc).

Now we just need to organise renting our own house out, hiring removalists, throwing out every single piece of non-necessary stuff in our house and packing everything up. Oh, and try to enjoy Christmas in the middle of everything lol.

500/week, ouch! and I feel like rents in byron shire are insane! for 500/ week you get a really nice 4br house with a pool and nice garden here. I'll stop complaining then!
but the location does sound worth it.
do you have a really good sling for getting up those stairs?
I found one of those little "granny trolleys" does wonders for carrying stuff around when you have to get up stairs, especially with a babe in a sling too.

we're moving house over christmas as well, and getting telstra to connect the phone at this time of year is proving to be a real

Got your PM thanks Majik - I'll check it out.

Re: the slings, I've got 2 good one A hug-a-bub for the newborn (when he/she arrives, but was very, very well used when DS was a babe) and DS still gets worn in the mei-tai (back-carry). Love my slings

Thankfully DS is very proficient getting up and down stairs since we live in a highset house atm, so I'm not too worried about having to carry him as much.

The rent is really frustrating. We're going to get about $360/wk from tenants in our house which is a 3-bedroom with full air conditioning, a HUGE back deck, nice native (low maintenance gardens) and the bottom storey is all storage/garage. And to pay so much extra for so much less just does my head in. Best not to think too much about it lol.

it is frustrating. but that's the prices in sydney.
it's even more annoying that my family sold my grandmother's house after she died, literally minutes before the housing prices went through the roof - a 2 story mansion with a tower on the waterfront at manly. oh well.
paying all that rent will be worth it for the convenient location.

just a thought: it is possible to sling two kids at once, and you can get a toddler on the back in a mei tai or ergo-style carrier, and a baby in a front carrier or ring sling at the same time.
there might be days when having that down pat might save your sanity - even the most energetic of toddlers might balk at four flights of stairs after a long day.
