A friend of my wife just gave birth this weekend, and we went to the hospital to visit her and the baby girl who was originally due on January 6. We were hanging out, and I was giving the new mother a little Reflexology. To relax her, I joked that since the baby came early she can get a Tax Deduction this year. The new mother then said that there were a couple of other women in the ward who came in to get their labor induced so that they could get the tax break!

This is quite common. I know someone who is an L&D nurse and she says it happens all the time!!!! So much for having your priorities in order!

My midwife said she's had a few people in the past ask to be induced - or ask what they can take to bring labor on before the end of the year.
She even had someone ask her to "fudge" the birth cert... to say the baby was born on the 31st and not the 1st of Jan. . . . (she didn't do it)

I was asked by one of the docs in the group if I wanted to induce for tax purposes (my appointment was on 12/30) since I was past 41 weeks anyway. I refused and Thank God she wasn't on call when my son finally arrived on January 2.

My due date was Jan 1 and I just imagined dh yelling at me to push harder at 11:30 PM on Dec 31.

Luckily she was born Dec 18! This one's EDD is May 29 so nothing to worry about there.

I'm surprised the IRS hasn't found a way to make this illegal.

Also, does astrology still count?
