sounds like an interesting meeting is about to take place that might affect all of us:

*****************************************

Please take a few minutes today to contact your members of Congress and ask them to attend the Congressional briefing on the maternal health crisis on Thursday, May 6th, from 12:00-2:00 pm in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2226. (Lunch will be served).

All of us in the birth advocacy movement are aware of the crisis in maternal health, but very few members of Congress are.

So it’s very important for us to get as many members of Congress as possible to listen this panel speak about increased maternal mortality rates, increased c-section rates, lack of access to VBAC, midwives and out-of-hospital maternity care, and the need to transform childbirth in the U.S.

The briefing is sponsored by Amnesty International, the NAACP, Childbirth Connection, and the White Ribbon Alliance and will bring together national and international experts on maternal health, including midwife Jennie Joseph, CPM. Representatives John Conyers, Lois Capp, and Gwen Moore will also be speaking.

Members of the public are welcome, so everyone in the DC area who can attend, please do!

To find the contact information for your two Senators and your Congressional Representative go to:

http://clerk.house.gov/ and click on “Member Information”

OR

Call the Clerk’s Office:

(202) 225-7000

Please note: You will need to know all nine numbers of your zip code to find out who your Congressional Representative is. The last four digits of your zip code can be found on any recent bills you have received.
