Hi my labor with my ds was over 20 hours. my labor with my dd was 8. I am thinking of having a third. Was your labor with your 3+ children more like the length of your second time wise? I dont know if I could handle another 20 hours of labor...but could easily do another 8 hour labor. Just wondering

My third labor was very different than my first 2... Length of labor, how it started ( my water broke with the 3rd before labor, not with the others) as well as how it progressed! I was very suprised. Pushing was the only thing that was the same.

My first labor was 26 hours, #2 was 8 hours and seemed very easy, #3 was over 20 hours and very hard. All of them were between 8.5 and 10 pounds at birth (#2 was the largest - go figure). All of them were natural births. My doctor seemed to think that the positioning of the baby had a lot to do with the difficulty/ease of birthing. I guess #2, even though he was huge, was in a better position for easy exit.

I asked my mom, she had 4 unmedicated, uninduced childbirths in the 80s and 90s.

I took 16 hours

Little Bro was 1 hour and 40 minutes

Sister #1 was 2 hours even

Sister #2 was 2 hours 15 minutes

My labor with my daughter was 29 hours, so I am really hoping some of the above rubs off!

My mom had three unmedicated births, the third at home, the first two in military hospitals.

#1: 19 hours

#2: 12 hours

#3: 6 hours

There's hope!

My neighbors three births:

1. 14 hours
2. 10 hours
3. 26 hours

From what I have learned from moms that have birthed three or more, it seems like that third one is a wild card. They either come fast and furious, or slow and steady. :LOL

1. 56 hours
2. 13 hours
3. 32 hours

The hard part for each, though, was only 1-4 hours.

each labor was soo different than the other, although i woke up warly in the morng with each one and they were all born on thursdays

my first was about 20 hours. I believe that this would have been shorter if I had *allowed* myself to be better in the moment than I was. i pushed for over 2 hours. babe was 7lbs 6 1/2oz

#2 was maybe 10 hours and i pushed for 45 minutes. i loved being in labor and really drew alot of energy from the experience. babe was 8lbs 8 1/2 oz

#3 was about 8 hours(?) and i pushed for about 30 minutes. Babe had shoulder dystocia (ouch!) which is why the pushing took so long. He was stuck for over 3 minutes...he weighed about 10 lbs.

You never know? I have been with moms whose 4th was the longest ever. Mine were
1. Induced 12 hours
2. Induced 2 hours 40 min.
3. Natural 4 hours.

A little longer but not much. Wasn't counting on it. Another mom I know had # 6 and #7 be the longest by far, both had a 9+ cm with a lip for 5 hours! Have also seen a 8th baby fall out with 3 noticeable contractions!

#1: water broke spontaneously 6 days before edd, no ctx, about 18 hours later, had cervadil, dd born about 6 hours after that.
technically, over 24 hours, but only about 6 hours of active labor.

#2: ctx started at 6 p.m., ds born at 10:30 p.m. (natural) so, 4.5 hours of labor.

#3: bloody show and cramps starting saturday morning, definite labor ctx by saturday night at 11:30 p.m., dd born at 10:30 a.m. I'm calling this one an 11 hour labor (only the last hour or so was really intense).

I've heard the same thing about the third baby being the wild card.

My first was well over 24hours but I just have very long first phases.

My 2nd was 20hours, again long first phase.

My 3rd was very different than the first 2. My water broke before going into labor which had not happened before. I didn't really go into labor but because I was having contractions(that started at 12weeks) they augmented instead of induced. There were various reasons for augmenting the most important was the decelerations in her heartrate. The lowest her hr got was 13. They had called a surgeon in to do a c-section by then. He checked me and I was still 2-3cm, 60% effaced and he could push her head out of my pelvis. They started prepping me for a c-section, 17minutes later she came out vaginally. I didn't even know until my body started pushing. The dr did have to reach in and pull her out because she was stuck.

The next labor might be longer, it might be shorter but you won't know until it's done.

#1 - 13 hours, 10 days past edd

#2 - 6 hours, 8 days before edd

#3 - 4 hours, 6 days before edd

All three of mine were pretty much identical except for the duration. Now that I think I know what to expect, any more we may have will probably throw me a big curve!

Ah, how timely. I am currently writing an essay on how my expectations for an easy third birth got me down and made the whole process more difficult! So, my three as follows:

#1: 7.5 hours 1 day after EDD, 7.12 oz baby born at home underwater
#2: 3+/-hours (and maybe four pushes) 4 days before EDD 7.14 oz baby born at home
#3: 12+ hours 11 days past EDD 9.10 oz baby born at home

And number 4 will be born in another month or two via scheduled c-section due to vasa previa. They are all so different.....

I will not be doing this again. Four is my limit in more ways than one!

#1- 4 hours

#2- 57 minutes

#3- 4 hours

#4- 2 1/2 hours

#5- 4 hours, followed by a labor stall and a 4 hour nap, then 1 1/2 more hours. (short cord, very interesting)

My labor nurse 3rd time told me 1st baby [usually] takes awhile, second comes real quick and 3rd does what it wants :LOL

But without getting into my whole birth story 3rd was 2 weeks early, may not have been 'real' labor but since I was 4cm and having some contrax they wouldn't send me home because of how fast I went 2nd time. Basically I think that is why her labor was longer, I kept stalling out. Urgh if I only went for that homebirth...

1. 8 hours and biggest baby
2. 3hrs 43 minutes
3. 14 hrs and smallest baby

I count from first contrax to delivery, all were med free except baby 3, got pitocin with her but that's it.

My mom's all pain med free but first was an induction:

1st: induction with I think pitocin but this was late 70's and ma said somthing about she was given some drug trial induction med that made her sick -5 hrs (smallest)

2ndme) 45 minutes after her water broke before that she didn't really count as she felt no real contrax she said, just a dull bellyache

3rd: 3hrs 5 minutes but bro was transverse and they wanted to do a section on her. She told docs to wait it out, as soon as he turned they broke her water, 5 minutes later he was born. She jokes if he wasn't sideways she could have had him in 5 minutes. He was the biggest btw.

It seems in mine and mom's case our smallest babies took the longest and I know a lot of people with smaller babies that also have had long labors, wonder if gravity has anything to do with this?

sorry I rambled, I have 'nope can't just answer a q with less than 10 words' syndrome! :ignore

Time-wise, all 3 births were similar.

However, I got better at laboring each time. Although I doubt that the contractions were easier or less intense, they felt that way the 3rd time around. By that time, I had my relaxation techniques down pat, and I prettty much sailed through the labor. Although I was in labor for 19 hours with baby #3, only the last hour was difficult. And I a complete wuss when it comes to pain, so that's saying A LOT!

Number #1 was 4 hours with 2 of it being pushing.

#2 was 6 hours but only one push(i enjoyed this labor the most)

#3 went 2 1/2 weeks overdue and i had to induce with castor oil.She was a 45 minute labor.(my least fav labor!)

My third birthing was the hardest because she went so far overdue and was huge. And from the induction time i had been 5cm dilated for a month so this labor went super fast which is very difficult to manage.

Labor with ds1 was about 24 hrs.

Labor with dd was about 40 hrs.

Labor with ds2 was 9 hrs. and the easiest by far, and he was the largest of my 3 children.

Hope that helps, but I think you will find that each woman and each pregnancy is different, so might be hard to predict, though I don't really know.

Maybe you just don't know till you get there!

My first birth was 8 hours.

My second was 6 hours.

My third (with twins) was 2 1/2 hours!

Each got easier and easier. Actually, with my last two births, I never really got to that far out place of unbearable pain. I felt very conscious and integrated with it.

By the way, weight-wise, my first was my biggest, at 9 pounds, 9 ounces. My second was 5 weeks early and weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces. The twins were bigger than him, 7 pounds 10 ounces and 8 pounds 11 ounces, so the weights didn't seem to have much of a bearing on things!

I think relaxation is the key.

#1 was 4 1/2 hours
#2 (nuchal hand on his forehead that was supposedly keeping him up high) 5 hours, but my easiest by far
#3 just under 2 hours
#4 1 1/2 hour
#5 50 minutes (unattended, NOT FUN, but it all worked out in the end)
#6 3 hours - go figure!
