my little sister said that she might PLAN a c-section next time because of her fears of having an anuersim while pushing out her baby.
i have never heard of this until then, and then i asked around and found out about one woman that it did happen to.
anyway, my sister is not in any real risk catagory to an aneurism, but
i am curious about the risk of this compared to the risks of c-sections (i am very very very against c-sections unless there is NO OTHER way for momma or baby to live...)
any info about this would be great!

Probably an extremely rare occurance (I've personally never heard of one) but if one is predisposed, I can certainly see purple pushing doing it.

Do a search at MDC on 'pushing' and show the results to your sister. There have been LOTS of threads examining the popular notion that 2nd stage of labor has to involve holding one's breath and pushing as hard as possible to others' directions. The fact is, that *is* dangerous (cuts off oxygen to baby, and increasing risk of vaginal and perineal trauma,) and unnecessary in a normal labor.

Gosh, one can have a stroke by leaning their head back to have it washed at the hair salon, but that doesn't change people's habits much...:

I think she should look into different ways of pushing.

Couldn't she have a CT scan, to find out if she really is at risk for that sort of thing?

Of course, if you're going to mention that to her, you'll have to think of a polite way of telling her to have her head examined... :LOL

Is that true?

Never tell things like that to a hypochondriac. (read: me.)
