Hello. I'm new to this forum and I'm expecting my 4th baby. I had my first one in the hospital. WE used bradley method classes and was hoping for a natural birth. Unfortunately (little did I know) that my OB was on the same board as us. WE had unnecessary intervetions that I was told were necessary and that ended up putting my life and my baby's like in serious risk. It was quite a traumatic experience for us. so, my second was born at home with a midwife. It was such a beautiful experience. My husband at first was not in agreement, but I insisted. It turned out to be a very positive experience, but a poor financial decision, as we still have not payed off teh debt from the birth (4 years ago). My third was also born at home with a midwife. She recieved her licensed a about two months before my baby was due and she worked with our financial situation. She was a God-send, but stopped practicing midwifery (long story).

So, now I am pregnant with our fourth (surprise baby). I would really like to stay at home, and I would feel very comfortable with a UC birth, but DH so far is not going for that. WE have PPO, but cannot afford to pay the money up front, and even if they cover a good portion of the birth, I don't know if we can afford to pay the rest. We recieve a good tax return, but we really can't afford to use that for the birth (atleast not all of it) because we really rly on that to help pay the bills for the rest of the year. If anyone has any suggestions on how to approach this, I'm all ears! (btw, we live in So. CAlifornia, if anyone has referrels for us).

Thanks! Julia

Congratulations & welcome! We're expecting our 4th baby & have been on a financial downward spiral ever since #2 as well. We are preparing for a UC for a variety of reasons. Husband really loved the homebirth. I can't help you w/ referrals being on the other side of the country, but if you post in your tribal area you're bound to get more helpful responses.
