I had a gush of clear odorless fluid this night as I sat down on the toilet, but not too much, maybe as much as one of those urin sample cups would take. Some trickling after that.

I never would have thought I'd have to ask this, but with my daughter my waters broke just before she was born and this also wasn't a movie moment of me standing in a puddle...

And no contractions yet, just dull lower back pain and slight cramping but I've had this before.

So, any thoughts? Could I still go on for days?

( I sent my midwife an e-mail but no reply yet, I don't think this is an emergency or anything...or is it? )

My water broke before my last labor but labor started almost immediately afterwards. I smelled the water and it smelled a bit like semen to me, kind of bleachy iykwim? Not srong but just a little.
Then I squatted over a dark towel and saw the white flecks of - crap what's that white stuff called.... VERNEX! Anyway, that is how I knew it was my water. That and the fact that labor started almost immediately.
I think with this being your second labor will start soon Keep us updated.

It took about 6 hours after my water broke for contractions to kick in. In the meantime I did a lot of walking. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point, especially if you're just waiting ot hear back from your midwife. Go about your day and work on any of those "last minute" projects you haven't finished yet.

Maybe it was a high leak or something? I had the big gush myself, but some women lose smaller amounts. Labor could take a while to start though, especially since it doesn't sound like a full rupture (although that's probably a misnomer anyway, as your bag of waters would still be holding AF that replenishes itself constantly).

When my water broke, it was about 10 hours before even the little piddly early contractions started. Some women go several days, especially if it's just a small leak like it sounds you had. Just keep everyone and everything out of your vagina.

It does sound like a high leak to me, too. are you still leaking fluid? many times a high leak will re-seal and the fabulous thing about high leaks is that they are less likely to put your baby at risk for infection...provided you don't have any vaginal exams!

Sometimes the first layer of the water bag breaks, but the second layer stays intact. This could also be what happened.

Well, I'm leaking more and it does smell of Semen so I'm quite sure now. The dull pain has become annoying enough to require a hot water bottle. No pattern though, but comming and going Midwife says wait and drink lots

I think that means I'll have a baby soon. AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Oooooo, congratulations; it's almost time for you! How exciting to be so close to meeting your baby. Sending you easy labor vibes my dear.

With my DD, my water broke the same. No real pattern or difficult contractions at 20 hours, when I finally gave in to the pit (hospital delivery), so it could be awhile. . . or it could be soon!

In the LDR beds? NO! Maybe if you were really exhausted, but those things are hard and uncomfortable. I'm really glad I got to labor in the antepartum unit where the beds are SOFT. I can't imagine laboring on those hard LDR beds. I was in one for about 10 hours or so when they stopped my PTL, and when they moved me to the antepartum unit around 10pm, I was SO happy to finally be able to sleep - the bed was so soft!

Yeah, be doubly glad you're at home.

(and maybe not all hospitals have the hard LDR beds, but mine does! I've sat on exam tables that had more padding

OTOH if you have also stopped leaking it might not be showtime just yet (that's what happened to me--it resealed.)

Hah, that's one way. In the hospital they do a version of that, have you lay completely flat for half an hour and check for pooling. Or you can wear a pad.

Ok, time to watch a movie then and lounge on the couch...wearing a pad already but can't tell now, it actually really might have stopped.

Oh, the Drama ....:

If it really has stopped I recommend drinking lots of water, taking vitamin C 4 times a day, resting, eating whatever you want, and sulking. It worked for me.

When mine broke that way, I just kept soaking pads so I knew it was still leaking. Now if I had known not to believe the OB when he said to come straight to the hospital if the water breaks I might have gone days before real labor started. So yes, much better to be at home (where I wanted to most of my laboring).

This could be a good thing. Now you can get some good sleep and then you'll be well rested for labor if it happens tomorrow. With DS, my water full on broke at 9 pm and I was able to sleep between contractions from 11 pm until 5 am. That was nice.

I'll be hanging out here to see what's going on~ I can't wait to hear about your new babe!

BTW~ Did you figure something out for care for your DD?

ooohhh the suspense.

I hope you're feeling rested and pregnant...hang in there. You're getting closer and closer to birth day. It can be dissapointing--but any ctx you do now are paving the way for baby's arrival! Positioning, turning the baby--all good! it's all good!

OR

I hope you're feeling rested and eating and resting while in labor

OR

I hope you're holding your little baby!

I'm still here without contactions and I suspect it was a high leak....I even slept through the night without waking up once. Now I feel like an attention hog :
