As I like to say...I farted out my 9+lb baby!
I pushed 11 minutes...and that includeds the time it took the "medically inclined midwife" to suction him(hella lame). However I had just turned 17 and I beleive that makes a big difference.
But I think pushing never feels as long as it is.
I am a midwifery apprentice and an hour feels like no time really....most mamas say that too.
Every mama is different, and the differencis beautifully normal!

My little DD pushed herself all but two inches out! Then I did the rest, which took about 10 minutes.

The "medically inclined midwife" said I was at 10, so I could push. I know better now!

Dd1 was two plus hours... ugh. Never push just because you are at 10. Waiting for my body to be ready and working in tandem was so much better. Dd2 was 14 minutes of pushing. Dd3 was similar but I didn't keep close track, maybe 10 or 15 minutes? Would have been much less the third time but she was OP.

Shoot, I pushed such a short time with Jubilee that the midwife had to come running into the room LOL!

Seriously, I got in the tub, made it to hands and knees and was thinking I'd lean back and relax for a minute, but BAM! My body had other ideas. My water broke, I pushed maybe... twice? It felt like she was a runaway train and I was just hanging on for the ride. LOL!

It's funny you say this because with my first, I couldn't understand why there seemed to be such an urgency for me to push at 10 cm. I didn't feel like pushing, and I remember being very upset at the nurses for forcing me to start pushing: (and it took 2 hours!) With my son, I felt what it was like to NEED to push, and it was over in 8 mins. Go figure.

Yup, like watching a car wreck right?

I pushed for 18 minutes with my first. With my next two I couldn't see a clock but it was really fast. #2 I didn't even really push, just hung on for dear life as he catapulted out in one ctx. #3 had a nuchal hand of some sort, took two pushing contractions and she was out.

They were 6lb 2oz, 7lb 7oz and 7lb 6oz... IMO size matters less than baby's presentation and my position while pushing.

Dudettes, call me crazy, but I LOVE PUSHING! I get to that stage and I'm like "WHOOOHOOO here comes my little bundle of love!" Baby #1 I had an epidural (bleaugh) and was pushing w/feet in stirrups (bleaugh) and an open incision in my side (bleaugh) and I pushed for 45 mins. Baby #2 at home, standing up, two pushes and he flew out. Baby #3 at home, standing up, two pushes and she flew out. Pushing has to be my favorite part of labor.

dc#1- Less than 30 minutes...maybe 6 contractions???
dc#2- about 10 minutes...maybe 4 contractions???
dc#3-less than 10 minutes...about 2-3 contractions???

I agree with MotheringHeart...I LOVED pushing...felt all empowering and stuff and was a different, more understandable kind of sensation. Which is not to say I was ever "in control", but it felt really productive because I could always feel the baby decending and emerging into the world... VERY Cool s

50 minutes, according to my mom and dh. I never really consciously pushed, though. It was all my body's reflexes. I wonder if it would have been shorter if I'd been less exhausted.

I had the opposite problem. I was "stuck" at 8 (wouldn't have been if they let me get up and walk!) and wanted to push really bad. For like 2 hours. Then I started pushing anyways and it still took an hour (btw, I was 10 when pushing), probably because "women MUST push on their backs!" I just wanted the kid out so I didn't fight like I should have.

My shortest was 6 minutes

My longest was about 15. His head came right away but it took 8 mins to get his shoulders out. This was our UC and I think had I had a mw she would have "helped" a little more than dh did and it wouldn't have been so long.

I pushed for over 3 hours but it felt more like I was pushing for 10 hours. DD was in a ROP position.

I'm curious what the non MDC responses were like.

I pushed for three hours and got an ultimatum(sp?) in the form of three choices.
I choose the vacuume at that point. I don't know if it was the right choice, but the baby came out. DS was OP and asynclitic.

20 min. for each..dd had a nuchal hand, and i wasted a couple pushes trying to figure out what position i needed to be in to help her out. if i'd been a little more "with it" she probably would have been out sooner.

With dd Cassidy, maybe 10 minutes
With ds Wyatt, maybe 5 minutes as I had no control my body was pushing
With dd Morgan, maybe 5 minutes, two pushes again body pushing without my help...like the runaway train described earlier.

As I was never "checked" for progress,I have no idea how long I was dilated or how dilated I was when my body pushed. I only let observers know when it was ready to push and got out of the way...lol!!!

Hey, Sapphire, still pullin for you to move to Michigan...

With dd I pushed for a grand total of 38 minutes.

With ds, I didn't push. He birthed all on his own. Well, okay, I did a lot of work, but no pushing!

2 1/2 hours on my back + 2 1/2 hours on hands and knees = 5 hours of forced stupid purple pushing with no urge

but it felt like 20 minutes.

that's what i got when my hb ended up as a transfer.

i blew out my abdominals and pelvic floor as a result and have been in physical therapy for the better part of a year to put myself back together.

never again, though... if we have another it'll be born gently in my living room like we intended to with dd.
