My friend had a healthy birth 5 weeks ago. Normal PP bleeding which stopped after a couple weeks, but last week she started bleeding heavily again.

An ultrasound showed that she has a retained placenta. They gave her a medicine (I'm not sure which one) to cause contractions, but it's been a few days, making her feel horrible with very painful contractions, but nothing's happening otherwise.

They can't schedule a D&C in the hospital for another 10 days. (They said she could have one in the clinic w/ no sedative, and no medication to dilate her - they'd be manually opening her cervix... she's scared to death over this option).

Is there any alternative things she could try in the meantime to pass the placenta fragments? : : :
