From the first contraction to the baby's birth? 29 hours(that probably sounds a bit bad, but much of the time the contractions were pretty puny)

Was your labour natural or induced? My labor was artificially started with membrane sweeping, and later had to be re-jumpstarted with caulophyllum and cimicifuga, but no pit or anything

Did you use any pain medication? Nope, they don't really offer those at homebirths!

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?

From the first contraction that was REALLY painful (ie. couldn't sleep through anymore), it was 54 hours. I'd been in beginning labour for 4 to 4.5 hours prior to that, but they were more "annoying" than "painful".

Was your labour natural or induced?

Very, very induced. My body did almost nothing on it's own. I had 2 doses of Cervadil, a Foley catheter, AROM, and oxytocin. Not to mention that I was walking, doing "Birthing From Within" exercises on the birthing ball, etc. the whole time!

Did you use any pain medication?

I used nitrous oxide when I was started on oxytocin. After 7 hours of that (49 hours of labour), I got an epidural for exhaustion, not really for pain. I was just too tired to go on, and my body was unable to relax anymore, so I wasn't dilating.

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?

#1 55 hours (56 hours from starting pitocin to birth, but my first contraction wasn't for an hour after starting the pit.)

#2 10 minutes from first contraction to holding DS, 15 minutes from water breaking to holding DS.

Was your labour natural or induced?

#1 induced with pitocin due to prom and running a fever.

#2 induced by manually breaking my water when I was already 4cm due to severe unexplained bleeding.

Did you use any pain medication?
#1 yes, after 48 hours I got an epidural, the first one worked on only one side, the second one worked for only 30 minutes then about 4 hours of me complaining about it hurting again and no one believing me the nurse found out the cathetar had fallen out, I refused to get another one inserted.

#2 no, well that's not true, while she was sewing me up (I needed close to 60 stitches...you are not supposed to push out a baby in under 10 seconds I guess) I freaked out, so I had local anesthesia shots down there every few minutes during that part.

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?
--32 hours, 19 of those at 7cm

Was your labour natural or induced?
--natural, sPROM at 42weeks 3 days contractions began ~12 hours later

Did you use any pain medication?
--a spinal 4 hrs prior to the c/s with a second spinal right before surgery (dd was large, posterior, and asynclitic...she was presenting with her ear)

My VBAC hopes are for a shorter, easier labor that ends in a vaginal delivery. I am again planning an unmedicated birth, but now realize how important it is to rest during labor so I think I may be more open to requesting medication in certain situations than I was two years ago (32 hours of back labor and non-stop-vomiting does not lend itself to cat naps!)

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?
1 - 18 hours (pushed 3.5 hours, including trying to turn a posterior baby whose water had been broken artificially, thus helping 'cement' him in the wrong position)
2 - 11 hours (pushed 2 hours, beginning with the first "grunty" pushes)

Was your labour natural or induced?
1 - my membranes may have been stripped; we'll never know
2 - natural

Did you use any pain medication?
no (both)

I was in labor for 48 hours from the time I woke up having contractions (about 2 AM on a Wednesday) to the time ds was born (1:51 AM on Friday).

My labor was not induced and I was 38 weeks.

I was on my own for the first 40 hours but when I transported to the hospital I had a shot of Nubain and an epidural. :

mommy to ds 11/05, dd1 01/08, and dd2 01/10!

My first was 6-1/2 hours from first contraction to birth. My water broke half an hour before my first contraction and I had a "trickle" of amniotic fluid for 36 hours prior to that with no contractions. It was a natural homebirth and my son was 37 weeks, 2 days when he was born, 6 lbs 11 oz. Pushing was two hours, but in retrospect, I had no urge to push at all during that time. I should have just rested and pushed when my body gave me a sign!

dd1: induced at 38 weeks with cervadil and oxytocin. 21 hours from first contraction to birth. Epidural.

dd2: prodromal labour for a few days, the "can't talk have to remember to breathe" type. "Active labour" about 12 hours (of course ending at 8am to an exhausted mama). No pain meds.

Completely unmedicated labor at 38 wks. 21 hours long. Approximately 8 hrs transition/pushing. Ctx were regular, at least a bit painful, and close together right from the first one. Avg 45 sec every 2-3 min the whole time. I had one brief period of about 30 min where they were about 5 min apart. Oh and the last 8 hrs was excruciating.

Labor was 28 hours from first contraction until delivery. Only about 4 hours of intense labor and 20 minutes of pushing. No drugs!
