From the first contraction to the baby's birth?

Was your labour natural or induced?

Did you use any pain medication?

I'm just curious because I'm pg with my second, and my 1st labour was induced and medicated, but i got fully dilated(from 3-10cm) in only 2.5 hours (pushing was another 2.5)...just thinking ahead since so many people say that induced labours usually last a lot longer than they naturally would...if that's true, it's a good thing we're planning a homebirth cuz i might not make it to the hospital!

thanks for your answers! i love hearing about other mamas experiences :

2nd: spontaneous labor at 42w1d..... 12 hours from first contraction to birth, 3 1/2 hours pushing (passive with active)

3rd: spontaeous labor at 40w3d....4 hours from first contraction to birth. I barely pushed at all...she seemed to have pushed herself out in about 3 'pushy' contractions.

50 minutes? this is my fear....

#1 - 10 hrs from first contraction but i say the labor was only 6.5 hrs because it was soooo minor & sporadic for the first few hrs (a tiny cramp every 45 minutes or so). natural, no pain meds

#2 - 2.5 hrs , natural, no pain meds

#3 - i'll let you know in may but like i said, i'm fearful of "50 minutes!?"

Spontaneous labor at 37 weeks. Got an epidural after about 18 hours. Rested for a while. Started pushing at 24 hours past the first contraction. After 3 hours of pushing, had a C-section. So 27 hours total labor. I don't know how long it would have lasted if I'd gone natural, of course.

#1: 8 hours from first ctxn to birth, 3 hours of pushing. Spontaneous labor at 39w3d, no pain meds.

#2: 90 minutes from first significant ctxn to birth (I had a crapload of BH for the last 4 weeks). Spontaneous labor at 40w4d, no pain meds. Made it to the birth center 10 minutes before he popped out. Like previous poster, I didn't really push, but he came out in 3 "pushy" contractions.

Dd1: 9hr45min from first contraction to birth (which woke me - felt like my back was aching) to birth; labor began naturally; no pain meds (homebirth)

Dd2: 1hr30min from first contraction to birth; labor began naturally; no pain meds (homebirth)

Ds1 (baby A of my twins): 41min from first contraction to birth (and I believe it would have gone faster if I wasn't waiting on dh to speed home from work - lol); labor began naturally; no pain meds (homebirth)

Ds2 (baby B of my twins): I'm not totally certain b/c there was a break btwn baby A's birth and labor beginning again for baby B. I *think* the break was about 15 min but I really am just guessing at that number. Anyway, I'll say approx. 2hr15min from first contraction to birth; labor began naturally; no pain meds (homebirth)

Mama to four remarkable kiddos, all born at home.

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?
about 29hrs (only 15of them were intense labor). I truly believe it would have been faster - but we couldn't get the webcam working (my hubby's in IRAQ) for about 4hrs and I stalled out during that time. Ture story now, your surroundings and stress DO enhance or prolong your labor!

Was your labour natural or induced? natural waterbirth

Did you use any pain medication? nada - just what the body produces on its own to help us.

From the first contraction to the baby's birth? A little over 36 hours.

Was your labour natural or induced? I went into labor on my own. I transferred after something like 28 hours and had pitocin for the last 7-8 hours of it.

Did you use any pain medication? Yes. My son was posterior and the contractions piggy-backed like crazy. I also didn't have much support or positive energy around me, which I think it was made my labor go the way it did. I had IV narcotics at the birth center and then an epidural at the hospital for the last 7-8 hours. The pain up until then was enough for me to not want to do the pitocin without anything. I was exhausted and needed a little help.

Needless to say, I hope this one is a little different, or at least that I can cope with it and not have to resort to medication.

DD1:

From the first contraction to the baby's birth? 3 hours 8 minutes.

Was your labour natural or induced? Attempted to induce with AROM at 5.5 cm, but nothing, so I was pitocin induced at 6.5 cm.

Did you use any pain medication? Yep, epidural was placed sometime after 9 cm to relieve the pushing urge I started having at 8 cm. The contractions themselves were not painful. I labored down for 45 minutes before pushing. I pushed for 5 minutes.

DD2:

From the first contraction to the baby's birth? From the start of contractions 87 minutes. From the start of "real" contractions, 30 minutes.

Was your labour natural or induced? Induced at 6 cm by AROM.

Did you use any pain medication? No, it was pain-free.

My first baby had a long prodromal labour...4 days of contrax coming 5 minutes apart. THen they upped to 2 minutes apart for another 13 hours. I pushed for 3 hours and 45 minutes. My entire labour was roughly 110 hours of contrax at least 5 min apart. Sometimes, they came softer and I rested through them, but they always picked up intensity and never lost time during the prodromal stage.

My second baby had a labour that had a 3 hour prodromal stage...easy contrax at 20 min apart. It kicked into high speed and she was born 2.5 hours later for a total of 5.5 hours from first contrax until birth.

Water broke at 3:30am. No CXs until pitocin at ~8pm. 3 hours of insane labor (2cm-10cm in 3 hours), then 25 mins pushing. No pain meds or anything else.

From the first contraction to the baby's birth?
12 hours. By the time I got to the hospital, after taking nice warm baths to help manage with the pain (which really did work!), I was already 3-4 cm. I went into labor at 1:30 AM Dec. 9th and had Jason at 12:12 that afternoon.

Was your labour natural or induced?
They were going to induce it a few days after I had him, had I not had him when I did. As it was, he was already a full week late... he took his time.

Did you use any pain medication?
None at all. I just preferred it that way.
