We're cloth diapering with this baby, and my mother in law asked what we needed. I told her what we had, and that we needed a couple dozen more of the nice prefolds - not Gerber. I said we'd probably need cloth doublers after a few months, but we can sew or buy those. She travels a lot for work, and came home with these strange inserts. They're like the crotch of a cloth diaper that you put inside the cloth diaper. Not the rice paper liners for solid poo - this is like an actual cloth diaper. I don't get them. Am I missing the point?

FLIP do a disposable insert for their covers. Is it something like that, that you put inside a cover on it's own and then throw away?

No...I thought maybe it was at first. This is more like a super-thick, baby sized maxi pad for night use. We're doing mostly prefolds, so there isn't much benefit with those. I appreciate the thought in it, but she hasn't cloth diapered in 30 years and is really confused by the selection out there now.

Flat or elastic?  hourglass shaped?  Just sounds like a doubler, which is what you'll want later.  If it's elasticized, then it's a contour, which is a diaper to be put inside a cover.

You can take a look at the pictures here: www.greenmountaindiapers.com/doublers.htm  to get an idea of the different styles of doublers (scroll down to the side by side pics).

Is there a tag on them?  A brand name?  From the description, it just sounds like a heavy duty doubler, and while they probably won't be of much use at first, I use them every day (night) with my toddler, and have for probably a year.

Honestly, they look like the super-thick, old fashioned maxi pads. I'd have to pull them down, but they aren't any brand I recognize, so I wonder if they're actually from the states. She said they came from a new baby store in Oakland that is supposed to be a competitor to Babies R Us. The doublers I saw online that are disposable look reasonable in size, and look comfortable. I can't imagine putting super thick doublers in, though. This would be the bulk of a few prefolds.

I don't have any suggestions because I'm only familiar with Flip and gdiaper sposie inserts, but I will admit, I'm kinda intrigued.  shy.gif  I would love to know if you find out the brand.

If you get more info on where she got them, I'm happy to go take a look - I'm always interested in exploring new baby stores in my neighborhood.  :)

Owned by Bed Bath & Beyond.  According to their website, they're in Pleasant Hill or San Jose.

Just from a quick perusal of their website, it looks like maybe the G-diaper flushable refill packs?  I'm not seeing anything else on their website that it could be.

I thought she said Oakland, but she probably was talking about something else. She's down in the Bay Area during the week for work.

They definitely aren't the G-diapers, which make sense. I need to dig out the pack. And the name Buy Buy Baby bothers me. Talk about commercialism. nut.gif

Ah...yeah. These aren't what she told me. They're Select Kids Booster Pads - for disposable diapers. I think it is gross to leave a kid in a wet diaper, disposable or not, so added a booster doesn't make sense to me.

I can definitely see the benefit for overnight diapers.  Beyond that, I wonder if they would fit into a cloth diaper cover because they are reasonable compared to other brands that offer disposable inserts.  They aren't biodegradable, but they are an economical option for vacations, etc.

And, yes, I've been waiting for an update on what they were.  whistling.gif

My special needs brother gets these! Apparently they are for kids who are laying in bed or in a wheelchair and who aren't potty trained. Bigger kids = bigger absorption need. My brother is 22 and in diapers so that is what was explained to my mom because she was at a  loss as well. She changes him very often so he never leaks but maybe for kids/adults in a group home setting that don't get such one on one care?

And yeah, they look like huge maxi pads :)
