How many doublers/soakers would you recommend keeping on hand? We're planning on using mostly prefolds, but have some AIO's. I am making doublers, and am not sure how many we'll need. I'm planning on making them with flannel, micro terry, etc. They'll probably be at least two layers of terry and two layers flannel. I also cut apart Gerber prefolds to remove the poly batting, and am making doublers from six layers of the Gerber cotton weave, and flannel to cover. We've got three dozen prefolds and 7 AIO's for now, and tons of covers. Thank you. smile.gif

You really won't need doublers for a NB, their bladders are tiny.  You might need them by about 6 mos, and you probably will need them by the time babe is walking.  I can get away without a doubler with my 2 yo if I'm sitting around the house and will notice a pee immediately.  But if we're going out and I might not notice right away, I will definitely need one.  And if I want him to go coverless, absolutely can't skip it, or the floor will be wet (he pees faster than the dipe can absorb).

How many PFs do you have in the next size up (after infant size)?  I'd figure minimum of 1 doubler per pf.  You might need 2 doublers at night.  My DS actually needs 2 pfs plus 2 doublers at night and we still sometimes have leaks.

I didn't get any newborn prefolds, just the regular infant size. I have 3 dozen.

The infant pfs are typically outgrown somewhere around 6-9 mos, and you'll need a bigger size.  Between now and then you might want a dozen doublers.  For the larger sizes, I'd have a doubler for each pf.

Thank you. smile.gif That works then, since I got 12 from deconstructing Gerber diapers to remove the poly batting. I'm planning on stocking up on the bigger sizes next.

My dd has made it till 24m without needing any type of doubler.  I've been using a gmd brown prefold or the brown workhorse and never been close to wanting a doubler.

I bought 4 hemp/cotton doublers and only use them at night. We found this worked great with our frequency of washing and changing. Also using GMD diapers here.

I don't recall using doublers when DS was a newborn. Seems like if we weren't nursing or sleeping, we were changing the little guy, 24/7!
