With my last baby I had a top loader washer and religiously soaked the diapers every night in the washer with the lid up.
Now I have a front loader. I haven't purchased the diapers yet, but I'm eagerly waiting DH to give me the go ahead. So once lil man is getting his fluff on, I'm sure I'll want to soak the dipes. Does anyone have a front loader that has this figured out? Plz share your secrets!

Hopefully someone with a front loader can help you out. But why do you need to soak your diapers? Doesn't that cause unnecessary wear and tear?

I only soaked the prefolds and absorbent pads, not the covers. It didn't seem to cause any more wear and tear. I guess I feel like they get cleaner when you soak them.... I thought everybody soaked their dipes, back when I was CDing my last LO, it was a common practice on this board.

To me, it looks like people are doing a cold rinse with little or no detergent, then a hot wash with detergent, and an extra rinse. Maybe somebody else will chime in...but if your washer doesn't allow you to soak, I wouldn't sweat it :)

My front loader has a soak option. I don't think we have ever used it. We do the "whitest white" cycle for diapers. It's a prewash with no soap and then a wash with soap and an extra rinse.

It sounds like you have the same washer I do... Whirlpool Duet? I didn't know that about the prewash w/ no soap & extra rinse - if that is the case that will make things so much easier on me!

Yes that's the same washer. I set it to whitest whites and push the the prewash button the rest is part of the whitest whites setting.
