Can I mend a Bummis pail liner?

I have two of the largest size Bummis wetbag that we used to line our son's diaper pail, and a couple times for big wet things, but mostly they have been in storage for 7 years. I started using them as pail liners for my new baby, but within this first month they both got holes in the bottom seam.

If I just sew the hole shut with the sewing machine, will it hold in dampness? Do I need to heat seal it or something? Or shouldI just replace the bags?
