I was lurking for a while, then posted a couple of times and decided it would be rude of me to not formally introduce myself....
HI! My name is Sarajane, and I live in the D.C area. I have a wonderful 16 month old daughter, "LoLo". I am originally from the San Francisco area and have lived in the 'burbs of D.C. for about 6 yrs now. I have always had different opinions than the mainstream out here, so I'm glad I found this forum! Seems like more people here than not share some of my views. I can't help it, I was born in the '70's in BERKELEY to hippie parents for heavens sake!!!
I "natural parent" mostly: somewhat AP, Breastfed, co-slept, eat organically, use some alternative medicine (still looking for a good ped. here who has similar views, DD sees a D.O. and he's okay) although I am a nursing school drop out, I have a strong "science" background and decided to vaccinate DD for many reasons.
Anyway, we finally found our way to cloth diapering about a month ago (why not sooner I wonder?) and I still have some questions as we work out the kinks. I guess it took me so long to switch to cloth as I was EXTREMELY overwhelmed after her birth. My husband's job requires him to travel 1/2 the week, so with him gone, I was barely keeping my head above water. She has since entered the wonderful, semi-independent toddler stage, which frees up a lot of time for me, and I can concentrate on the "DIAPER LAUNDRY" (which by the way I LOVE doing, it's very satisfying to me!)
I will be posting my introduction on the"pleased to meet you"/and "diapering" boards , so if you get this twice, sorry!
I look forward to chatting and getting to know everyone!!
