: lol, what can I say....maybe the thread will get more views this way!

....or, at least it smells that way from her diapers! Help! Talk to me about hemp. I know others have had stink issues. My dipes are brand-new, only about a month old. They have all been cycled through prolly 3 or 4 times. I've tried sportwash, I've tried a wash with no detergent, I've tried BS and vinegar.

What's going on, and how do I fix it? THe stench is baaaaad. As in, I'm almost ready to kick her out of our bed, LOL! Heck, maybe even out of our room!

Oh, and they start stinking after she's been wearing them for approx. an hour--even if she hasn't actually peed in them, the odor seems to be activated by sweat or body temp, I guess. Fresh from the laundry, though, they smell so sweet and fresh and innocent! You'd never guess there was 3-day old roadkill just lurking in there....

HELP!!

Well, you probably will get a lot of views with the title! :LOL

Have you used any rash creams on her? I think some of the more mainstream ones have cod oil in them. That can cause a fishy smell. We haven't had this problem, but I think some other people on the board have. I think they've scrubbed them with a toothbrush, but I could be wrong.

I got to a point that I had stopped using Bio-Kleen and started just using Baking Soda and Vinegar. I hadn't stripped in between and had lots of stink. So, I stripped and stripped and stripped (15 - 18) times and got terribly frustrated. So the next wash I did on all hot with 2 cups vinegar, then my regular 1/2 cup wash, 1/2 cup vinegar rinse with a follow up Lav EO rinse. It has been almost 3 months and no stink!!!!!!!

Many people who report a fish smell have used diaper cremes that have a certain ingredient in them, have you used anything like that?

Do a search for hemp stink .

The only time I've ever had fish smell was when I used baking soda and vinegar as part of my wash routine in soft water. The only time I could smell it was when the diapers were warm but still damp in the dryer. When I cut those two out, it went away.

Your thread title def. caught my eye!

I had some stinky diapers yesterday so I did a full cold wash cycle with BS, then a hot soak with BS and borax followed by 2 hot wash/cold rinse cycles. Even my fleece came out odorless.

I bleached 'em. (just a little bleach), and it worked great, but since yours are so new, there must be something in your wash routine. vinegar worked for me once, but baking soda made it worse (we have soft water, not sure if that helps)...

Thanks, ladies! Actually, the smell is not really fishy (I just thought that made a catchy title!). It's more of a reeeeeeeeeeally strong smell. Like cat pee. On a hot stove. Where fish had been cooking.

Okay, seriously, it is just a super strong ammonia smell, but it is definitely coming from the diapers, because as I said, they start stinking even before she pees in them. As soon as they warm up from her body, I guess!

Well, off to search!

thanks, and I'd love to hear more thoughts!

Try throwing a pot of boiling water in with your wash cycle...your water may not be hot enough to get the fish in the bottom of the pea... I mean sea! :LOL

It sounds crazy, but it works for many people.
