Um, I think you have graduated past the beginner stage!

I think what you have looks great! I only read your list quickly, but it looks like you are doing especially well on covers, but you might need more actual diapers in the bigger sizes.

I wouldn't buy anything else at this point (unless you come across a deal that is just awesome) so you can see what you like once you have your baby. Whoe knows, you might end up loving prefolds! The only thing I would suggest is a snappi or 2 for those newborn prefolds. Also, make sure you have wipes a pail/liner, a plan for what you are wetting the wips with, etc.

Ok, good, Thanks.
Yes, we will need some more med diapers, but like you suggested, I think we'll see what we like down the line. We do need snappis and to get our system set up as far as wipes/pail, etc. But as far as covering our newborn's little bottom for the first few months, we're good? Yippee?
Now we just wait and wait for the little gipper to show up!

You have done a great job gathering.
I would hold off on any more for now. Your taste or experience may change and you may want something different as you go along. But what a nice start you have.

I think you need some more newborn diapers. How about another couple dozen infant prefolds and basic wrap covers? Newborns go through TONS of diapers since they pee and poop constantly. You could use them later for doublers.

Very impressive stash, indeed, though! I would just hold off on buying anymore of the larger sizes since your tastes could change once you try them on the babe and use various types. You might decide you love prefolds or pockets, or whatever...

Good Luck!

Thanks for all your replies and advice!

Can you tell that we're excited!

A dozen more prefolds sounds like a good idea.

Any specific suggestions? Bleached... unbleached... og cotton... hemp? Brands?

Any favorite wipes?

What about ideas for a pail system? We'll be washing them on site.

We (((((((((((appreciate)))))))) all your input!

oh WOW!!! Let me say I'm envious of your AWESOME stash!!!

I myself have built a NB/small stash for our DS arriving in Juy, but compared to your stash mine looks lousy! :LOL (I don't have any medium dipes yet as I first wanted to find out what I like)

When's your little one coming? -I didn't pay attention to your siggie, so forgive me if it's mentioned there...

Looking forward to hear/read more from you, good luck and all the best!

I use unbleached chinese prefolds and am happy with them. There was a thread in the last few days called something like "what's your favorite prefold" you might want to check out. If you can do it, organic cotton is great from an environmental perspective sinece a lot of pesticides are used in the production of cotton. I only have 6 OC dipes cuz they are more expensive (I figure if I can only afford some things organic it makes more sense to buy organic food than diapers).

How exciting!!! -So you know already that it's a boy?

I'm really looking forward to exchange experiences then since our DS will be born 12th of July and I'm quite a bit nervous of starting CDing with a NB!

Since this will be my 1st time Cding after 3 kids, I am not an authority on newborn stashes!! But I will be Cding our 4th and am working on our stash so yours helps me out!! I am also due around the beginning of September, and while we did not find out what we are having, we have three boys already so we are assuming his one will be a boy also!! Good Luck!

Looks like you have a lot or odds and ends, I can try my best to help clarify what goes with what if you want....

Fitteds work really well with pull-on covers, not so good with velcro or snap covers, although they will work, it's not the easy to fasten the diaper and then fasten the cover as well, plus it's much bulkier. Much easier to just pull one on.

Velcro or snap cover work great over Prefolds, contours or Flats.

I also second the suggestions to get a few more nb covers. The 4 wool nikkys will be nice, but once they get poopy and have to be washed they take a day or 2 to dry completely. That's why fitted diapers work soooooo well with wool, no poopy leaks! 6-10 covers is nice to have with prefolds. Might want to get 12 of the premie unbleached prefolds, they are a bit smaller and fit sooooo well in those first few weeks!

Our favorite combo with a nb was a nb sized fitted (anything like kissaluvs works great) and a simple pull-on cover. We swear by the Alexis Featherlite covers. They fit sooo well, left no red marks, were breathable, economical, and NO LEAKS! If you are planning on nursing and letting baby sleep with mommy, it's nice to have a system that doesn't leak at all for night time. Fitteds with pull-on covers seem to be the easiest for mommies to change in the middle of the night(daddies too, but you can only count on their help for so many changes, after about 2 wks daddies seem to peeter out, and it's up to us....lol!) I kept a small flashlight under the pillow and had all the diaper necessities(changing pad, prefolds for messes, fitteds, a cover or 2, Washable wet bag)on our nightstand, with a big glass of water for me too.

After that I loved the one-sized fitteds. They are a bit bulky on a nb, but they definatly do work. And once the nb fitteds were all dirty we used the one-sized fitteds until the laundry was done. Then as baby grew out of the nb fitteds, the one-sized kept going! It was that they ended up being less expensive than prefolds and covers over time too. Easier, cuter, breathable and cheaper. What could be better, lol!

THAT's great information Sarah, Thanks! We are planning on nursing and co-sleeping, so we'll check out the pull-on's you suggested along with some little prefolds.
Thanks again all for your input, it is much appreciated!

Good For you! Glad to hear you'll be co-sleeping with your little nursling!

Have you been to a La Leche League Meeting yet?????

That is your best defense against running into problems, because you'll be more knowledgeable on how to start things off right so they don't occur, and if probs do occur you'll have your backup of nursing mommies to help bail you out quickly.

Are you drinking your Red Raspberry tea????

That will help bring you a quick and painless labor.

Good luck!

I'd get another 1 or 2 doz infant prefolds, and 1 or 2 doz regular sized ones. Also, some snappis and pins. In case you're feeling adventurous! The infant ones make great doublers for overnights when baby is older. Also, they make great burp pads, and for leaking breasts in the early days. The reg. ones are great as change pads for messy diaper changes, and all kinds of disasters involving bodily fluids. Trust me! :LOL When #3 got the flu as a 1yo, he would throw up into a clean prefold that I'd hold while rocking him...I was pretty glad I had a nice clean stack of them next to me. You can *never* have too many prefolds!

Also, a great workhorse cover is the velcro Bummi Super Industrial Whisper Wrap...'tis our cover of choice for infants. They hold in the explosive poops very well, fit for a long time over *every* dipe, and dry pretty quickly. I change over to wool covers in size M. I like to have 6-8 BSIWW's in size small, though 4 would be great.

Otherwise, you have a nice little stash there! Congratulations on your new little one!

Oh, also I'd like to add that infant gowns are great for nightime changes. I also tees compared to onesies...try Target for some cute ones. They also carry cute infant knit pants for daytime wear. A co-sleeping babe will roast in those terry sleepers, and the snaps are a pain at night!
