So we just walked in the door from a MUCH needed vacation back in KY with my parents and I just want to cry
We spent 3 days on the road with 3 kids and last night our suitcases were stolen from on top of the car. I really wouldn't be so upset normally, but one entire suitcase contained 80% or more of my diaper stash
My girls are now down to about a dozen prefolds, 2 AIOs and 4 pocket diapers.. along with 4 wool covers.
I dunno what to do! I cannot afford to replace it all, I have no idea if insurance will cover any of it... and I had JUSt gotten my stash to where I loved every bit of it. ALL of my new BottomBumpers, almost all of my Harleyz, my SwaddleBees... oh the agony

That's really mean. WHY would people steal anyone's suitcases? And what is a further pisser is that they will probably have no idea how wonderful all those nice dipes are! I am so sorry.
Were you staying at a hotel? Maybe you should call them and just have them keep an eye out for you. And call the local police and see if there is anything they can do. DEFINITELY contact your insurance company.

so many roads to ease my soul...

Any chance they would ditch the suitcase nearby if they didn't find what they were looking for??? I asked my homeowners ins agent about my stash and they said if you have receipts/pics it will be covered - call and see if yours is the same - I hope so!!!! You know we'll all help you stalk to replace specific things!!!!

Yep.. we were at a hotel, and the car RIGHT outside our door. The #(*&$@ things were tied down about a million times with telephone wire! They really had to do some cutting to get em. The hotel security filled out an incident report.. but the just were not nice people and completely unsympathetic. The local police were very fast, filled out a report and basically said "good luck with insurance". A really nice guy, but not too concerned with really doing anything but paperwork.
We checked the parking lot, dumpsters, and roadside for a few miles.. but it was just outside of Dallas, so I am sure they all just went into the trash
I will be calling insurance first thing in the morning.

Thanks for all of the sympathy.. I knew you all would understand! Even hubby was more upset about the dipes than anything else. He loves our lil fluffy butts, too!

What sizes?

I think homeowners insurance would only cover items stolen from inside the house. I think it would have to be the auto insurance. Do you have property theft insurance as part of your auto insurance? I'm not sure if they would cover it if it was just strapped to the roof. They might only cover things that are locked inside the vehicle. When I was a teenager, my mother and my brother and I went on a trip and took a truckload of stuff with us (I mean it was loaded to the gills with our stuff), and all our stuff was stolen from the truck, and it was the auto insurance that covered it (we only got about half value).

That is awful, mama! I'm so sorry! I know how crappy this must feel. I had stuff stolen from my car this spring, and I'm sure once they looked through it that it all ended up in the trash too, and it's such a horrible feeling. I don't understand why people are so awful to other people sometimes.

i used to work for an insurance agent-it was 5 years ago-but i'm pretty sure that your homeowners covers your belongings whereever they are...subject to your deductible and maybe depreciated for age...so if you have receipts and pics those will help-definitely call your homeowners/renters agent first thing tomorrow and get a claim started. in Maryland at least, an auto policy doesn't cover personal property stolen from a vehicle...(at least that's how i remember it)...
good luck!

That is so awful and as already said, when they open it and find nothing "good" to them they will trash them . I'm so sad for you!!! I just don't understand people doing something like that. I hope you are able to find some way to get at least some of the money back through insurance.

What a horrible thing for someone to do! I hope your insurance will cover everything that was taken.

good luck!
: I also worked for an insurance company - in most cases homeowners does cover your belongings, regardless of location. As long as you have proof (ie - receipts) you should be able to get it covered (minus deductible if applicable)

I would imagine people looking to steal stuff would make a habit of cruising hotels for just this type of thing. Ugh. Yucky lesson learned.
