OK, just a quick question from me, a mama who owns lots of cloths diapers and who is just about to actually *start using them* -- SOON! I'm due this Thursday but who knows when babe will come!

I have a lot of diapers from Vermont Diaper Company -- fitteds and prefolds -- all organic, unbleached cotton. I need to wash them to get the ready for wear.

I plan to wash them on regular wash, warm, using All Free and Clear detergent. It says to wash them 3 times -- I wouldn't imagine that I needed to dry them between washes -- do I? I plan to line-dry.

Once I get these done I will worry about my wool covers . .

Thanks so much for any advice!

Julia

You should do at least 3 washes on HOT with a bit of detergent and then dry them on HOt after each wash. Unbleached diapers really need about 5 wash/dry cycles.

I agree, wash and dry on HOT. After the initial washings, when you line dry, toss them in the dryer 5 min. when they are dry to soften them up. Line dried prefolds can be pretty stiff sometimes!

I only wash mine twice, due to the water bill and they work out great. No issues here.

Well, Kontessa who knows -- my due date club board is full of mamas having babies -- some several weeks early . . .

Sounds like HOT is the way to go -- I did wash them 1 time and they are in the drier on HOT right now. I guess the good thing about the small size is that I am able to wash ALL of them, including doublers and wipes in one load. That's pretty nice.

Thanks!

To get rid of build up on the diapers quicker, you can add a few drops of Dawn or any grease-cutting dish liquid and only have to wash and dry them once
